The Concert for Bangladesh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Concert For Bangladesh was the event title for two benefit concerts held on the afternoon and evening of August 1, 1971, playing to a total of 40,000 people at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The concert was also filmed, although Harrison later complained that half the camera operators appeared to have been indulging in illegal substances, which left the focus of some shots rather soft.
The concert was satirized in an episode of The Simpsons (I'm with Cupid), in which Apu Nahasapeemapetilon has in his record collection, the Concert Against Bangladesh, with a picture of a mushroom cloud on the cover.

Part of the brilliance of the concert is, first, hearing so many people who we are not used to hearing live at all, and, secondly, hearing musicians we have always admired playing with each other on stage for the first time.

DVD Verdict Review - The Concert For Bangladesh
It's a cliché, but the basic premise is still true—back in 1971, the concept of a concert involving an ex-Beatle, a bevy of his famous friends, and a virtually unknown charitable cause was the most radical of political and professional ideas.
The Concert for Bangladesh is a milestone for many reasons, but along with such other seminal films as Wattstax and T-Rex: Born to Boogie, it still fails to fully resonate with a modern-day audience.
The Concert for Bangladesh was about a band and a bunch of performers who wanted to put their moxie and musicianship where their money was.

In Dhaka, the sprawling capital of Bangladesh, a small museum on a quiet side road commemorates the country's war of liberation -- a war that, though now dimly remembered, stands among the greatest genocides of the 20th century.
Oh, and hanging on the wall of the museum is an LP jacket, and inside it the record of a fundraising concert in Madison Square Garden.
Here we remember the Concert for Bangladesh as the birth of a new kind of political-artistic-philanthropic circus, one of those cases where the first example was also probably the best.
