  Classical Conditioning
In this chapter we will look at Classical Conditioning, perhaps the oldest model of change there is. It has several interesting applications to the classroom, ones you may not have thought about it.
Conditioning Stimulus: a new stimulus we deliver the same time we give the old stimulus.
Conditioned Relationship: the new stimulus-response relationship we created by associating a new stimulus with an old response.

  Conditioning
A further principle of operant conditioning is that it is possible to condition an individual to perform behaviors outside of their usual repertoire.
This response is known as a conditioned response (CR) because it is occurring in response to the CS.
Classical conditioning can be contrasted with operant conditioning in that with respondent conditioning the CS leads to the CR, whereas in operant conditioning it is the Response that leads to the Stimulus.

 Operant Conditioning Information on Healthline
The Pavlovian model of classical conditioning was revolutionary in its time but eventually came to be seen as limited in its application to most human behavior, which is far more complex than a series of automatic responses to various stimuli.
According to operant conditioning, the likelihood that a behavior will be repeated depends to a great degree on the amount of pleasure (or pain) that behavior has caused or brought about in the past.
The real-world ramifications of opérant conditioning experiments are easy to imagine, and many of the experiments described would probably sound very familiar to parents who use such systems of rewards and punishments on a daily basis with their children whether they've ever heard of B.F. Skinner.

 Conditioning
Conditioning is the term used to designate the types of human behavioral learning.
According to classical conditioning, learning occurs when a new stimulus begins to elicit behavior similar to the behavior produced by an old stimulus.
However, when the noise or light (conditional stimulus) was repeatedly paired with the food or sour solution over an extended period of time, the dogs would eventually salivate at the noise or light alone.

For HVACR technicians who have at least one year of experience performing installations and 2 years of experience performing maintenance and repair, they can take a number of different tests to certify their competency in working with more specific types of equipment, such as oil-burning furnaces.

Classical Conditioning Could Link Disorders and Brain Dysfunction, Researchers Suggest
In fact, classical conditioning is so well understood and so similar in animals and humans, it's ideal for studies trying to link human disorders to brain dysfunction, says Temple University psychologist Diana Woodruff-Pak, PhD, who has found a connection between conditioning and Alzheimer's disease.
After discussing their research, the two believed that classical conditioning might be an interesting paradigm with which to pursue the study of cognitive aging.
The conditioning paradigm they used was classical eye-blink conditioning: By pairing a tone with an air puff to the eye, participants unconsciously learn to blink when they hear the tone, even if it's not accompanied by the air puff.

Essentially, the organism continues to be presented with the conditioned stimulus but without the unconditioned stimulus the CS loses its power to evoke the CR.
John Watson conditioned a baby (Albert) to be afraid of a white rabbit by showing Albert the rabbit and then slamming two metal pipes together behind Albert's head (nice!).
Notice the similarity to Classical Conditioning, with the exception that the behavior is voluntary and occurs before the presentation of a reinforcer.

Conditioning Encyclopedia of Psychology - Find Articles
When classical conditioning occurs, an animal or person initially responds to a naturally occurring stimulus with a natural response (e.g., the food leads to salivation).
Although classical conditioning became the dominant Russian model for the study of behaviorism, another form of conditioning took hold in the United States.
Operant conditioning differs from classical conditioning in that, whereas classical conditioning relies on an organism's response to some stimulus in the environment, operant conditioning relies on the organism's initiating an action that is followed by some consequence.

Classical conditioning was the first type of learning to be discovered and studied within the behaviorist tradition (hence the name classical).
Classical conditioning is Stimulus (S) elicits >Response (R) conditioning since the antecedent stimulus (singular) causes (elicits) the reflexive or involuntary response to occur.
The NS is transformed into a Conditioned Stimulus (CS); that is, when the CS is presented by itself, it elicits or causes the CR (which is the same involuntary response as the UR; the name changes because it is elicited by a different stimulus.

 Pavlovian Conditioning
Pavlovian Conditioning is said to occur when a previously neutral stimulus, such as a tone or light that normally is of little interest to the organism, becomes associated with an already existing reflex to the extent that it will, by itself, evoke a response.
This new reflex is said to be conditional, in that its ability to evoke a response depends upon the stimulus having been associated with a previously existing reflex.
Conditional Response (CR)--a predictable response to a stimulus that has influence because of its previous pairing with a previously occurring reflex.

 Educational Psychology Interactive: Operant Conditioning
Where classical conditioning illustrates S-->R learning, operant conditioning is often viewed as R-->S learning since it is the consequence that follows the response that influences whether the response is likely or unlikely to occur again.
The 3-term model of operant conditioning (S--> R -->S) incorporates the concept that responses cannot occur without an environmental event (e.g., an antecedent stimulus) preceding it.
They result from combining the two major purposes of operant conditioning (increasing or decreasing the probability that a specific behavior will occur in the future), the types of stimuli used (positive/pleasant or negative/aversive), and the action taken (adding or removing the stimulus).

How air conditioning changed America - Oldhouseweb.com
With its steadily decreasing costs, air conditioning was touted as a technology "for the millions, not just for millionaires." The refrigerator provided the model for early residential air conditioners.
As domestic interest grew in the late 1920s, refrigerator manufacturers were among the first to develop air conditioners due to their technical expertise with small-scale refrigeration units, automatic controls and mass-production.
Air Conditioning America is made possible by the support of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and by the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI).

Like their name implies, natural conditioning techniques condition the habit in the exact same way the habit would naturally be run.
Because the conditioning phase is usually a lot shorter than it first appears, this technique gets you to focus your efforts really hard for the first burst so you can reach orbit quickly.
Unlike the natural conditioning model, this technique requires that you be very careful about how you visualize the situation so that your nervous system will activate the habit upon the correct stimulus.

The all-air single-zone air conditioning system is the basic central system which can supply a constant air volume or a variable air volume at low, medium or high pressure.
