It is recommended that the PS condyle adjustment be performed with the patient in the seated position.
The condyle block is placed behind the cervical spine (C1-C7) to prevent introduction of flexion during the thrust phase.
The pattern of thrust for the AS condyle is anterior to posterior, superior to inferior, with an inferiorward arcing movement across the lateral mass of C1.

The posterior teeth settle, decreasing the vertical dimension of occlusion, and the mandibular anterior teeth are driven onto the lingual surfaces of the maxillary anterior teeth.
Since the condyle has been displaced in a postero-superior direction, "conservative" treatment is directed towards positioning the condyle anteriorly in the fossa, and allowing the disc to slip posteriorly into position between the condyle and the eminence.
The stretched and thinned posterior attachment is transected, the postero-superior aspect of the condyle is reduced and smoothed ("condylar shave") and the disc is reconstructed to the posterior attachment in its normal position.

Osteochondrosis/osteochondritis dissecans lesions of the humeral condyle can be observed on the craniocaudal view radiograph of the elbow as a subchondral bone defect that affects the trochlea (the medial portion) of the humeral condyle.
Osteochondritis dessicans lesions of the humeral condyle may not be as obvious as osteochondritis dissecans lesions of the humeral head.
Osteochondritis dissecans lesions of the humeral condyle should be differentiated from erosive or "kissing" lesions of the trochlea of the humeral condyle which frequently occur in response to fragmented coronoid process.

Lateral condyle fractures are common and result from the shearing of the lateral condyle from the shaft of the humerus by the radial head.
Following reduction and stable fixation of the intercondylar portion of the fracture, the condyle is attached to the shaft of the humerus.
(9) This occurs because the medial condyle of the distal humerus is larger, preventing the radius and ulna from moving medially.

As was indicated, a person's knee joint comprises a posterior femoral metaphysis, a posterior femoral notch, a medial femoral condyle, a tibia, a lateral femoral condyle, and a distal femur.
The steps of pulling the surgical instrument along the guide wire, removing femoral condyle debris from the cutting edges of the surgical instrument, and moving the surgical instrument through the surgical opening again and along the guide wire, are subsequently repeated until the desired channel is formed in the femoral condyle.
With continued reference to the drawings for operation of the surgical instrument 10 and the method for forming a channel or trough 21 in a femoral condyle 23 of a knee joint of a person, one of the embodiments of the surgical instrument 10 is formed as previously indicated.

Causes of a Fracture of the Condyle of the Distal Humerus?
With a fractured condyle it is important to follow-up the initial treatment to be sure that the bone is rejoining while it heals.  If it shows signs of not rejoining, surgery is the standard response.

Anatomy Modules: TMJ Anatomy & Function
The temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, is the articulation between the condyle of the mandible and the squamous portion of the temporal bone.
The articular surface of the temporal bone is composed of the concave articular fossa and the convex articular eminence.
As the condyle translates forward, the thinner intermediate zone of the meniscus becomes the articulating surface between the condyle and the articular eminence.

The Physician and Sportsmedicine: Osteochondritis Dissecans
Within the knee, OCD lesions occur at the medial femoral condyle (80% to 85% of cases), the lateral femoral condyle (10% to 15% of cases), and the patella (5% of cases)(figure 1) (1).
The medial femoral condyle lies close to the medial tibial spine, and bears a broad attachment of the posterior cruciate ligament.
Patients with lesions of the lateral femoral condyle should be referred to an orthopedic surgeon because these lesions are less stable, are difficult to manage, and often require surgical treatment.

In normal state, during jaw opening, the meniscus and condyle move anteriorly around the articular eminence with the meniscus maintaining its relative position to the condylar head.
As the mouth closes the meniscus and condyle move posteriorly together due to the combined effects of the pterygoids, muscles of mastication and the posterior attachment.
lateral pterygoid contracts to stabilize the condyle and, at the conclusion of closure, to draw the disc anteriorly.

TMJ - Dr. Stephen M. Winber, DDS, MPS
Note the sloped wall of the front of the fossa, it provides a path for the condyles during opening and side-to-side movement of the mandible.
Positioned between condyle and fossa and moving down the slope of the fossa with the condyle, it allows the mandible a greater range of opening than would be possible with only a simple hinge action of the joint.
This helps to explain much of the pain which accompanies a displaced disk, since the condyle is no longer supported by a dense, tough disk but is a now pressing on soft tissue containing numerous blood vessels and nerves.

Characterization of Porcine Mandibular Condyle Cartilage   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
Objectives: The objectives of this study were to characterize the histological structure, biochemical composition, and the mechanical properties of mandibular condyle cartilage from the porcine temporomandibular joint (TMJ).
Results: Histological characterization of the mandibular condyle showed a heterogeneous structure with a fibrocartilaginous region at the articular surface composed of both types I and II collagen, and a hyaline cartilage region underneath consisting of GAGs and type II collagen.
Biochemical analysis of the mandibular condyle yielded average values of GAG and collagen of 6.01±2.66 mg/µg DNA (n=7) and 17.89±5.07 mg/µg DNA (n=6), respectively.
