Coneheads - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Coneheads was a recurring sketch on Saturday Night Live featuring a family of extraterrestrials with cone-shaped heads, from the planet "Remulak," posing in the suburban United States as immigrants from France.
The sketch, which was featured in the show from 1975 until 1980, starred Dan Aykroyd as the father Beldar, Jane Curtin as the mother Prymaat and Laraine Newman as daughter Connie.
They engaged in strange behaviors, such as rubbing their cones together as a sign of affection, at which point a bizarre, theremin-like noise is emitted, presumably from the cones themselves.

The aim of the course is to use film as a hook through which to entice students to the study of the Bible.
The film’s surfeit of violence and obscenity proves that biblical citation and the activity of exegesis are not the province of morally uplifting films alone.
The film begins, for example, not with Daniel Coulombe ("the dove") but with John the Baptist, in the person of an actor named Pascal Berger whom we see in the final scene of Dostoevsky’s "Brothers Karamazov." At the curtain call, a woman in the audience whispers to her companion, "I want his head...

Furthermore: during the course of the film, a writer claims his script shows the innocent being punished and the guilty going free because "that's just the way life is" (he recants when a rough cut of the film tests badly).
For one thing, the film refers only to films in the airplane disaster genre which was popular in the 1970s (a genre which, with its overblown melodrama, was admittedly ripe for parody), limiting the scope of the humour.
Film is, of course, completely different: the audience has made a conscious decision to spend time in a theatre, so it has a stake in getting the most out of the particular work.

Not only are there Conehead dolls, figurines, and other assorted paraphernalia, but Subway restaurants have a deal with Paramount to market a "Mass Quantities" meal (Subway also has a prominent product placement in the film).
Based on the audience I saw the picture with, Coneheads may be headed down the same road as Last Action Hero.
The movie starts out okay, but it's hard to keep a story this thin going for long, and by the half-hour point (around the time that Connie Conehead is born), it becomes obvious that the decision to create a full-length feature out of this subject material was a colossal mistake.

deseretnews.com - Movie review: Coneheads | Deseret Morning News Web edition
"Coneheads" begins with Beldar (Dan Aykroyd) and Prymaat (Jane Curtin) leaving their home planet, Remulak, to pave the way for an interstellar invasion of Earth — but instead find themselves stranded and decide to blend in.
But in the end, the film itself is like the cinematic equivalent of a clothesline, with a steady stream of skits and gags hung out to dry.
"Coneheads" is rated PG for doubletalk double-entendres, some mildly vulgar dialogue, a single profanity and a brief locker room nude scene, revealing the unique backside of a Remulakian.

The film gives the principal cast members of "SNL," both old and new, a chance to work together for the very first time.
The basic premise of the plot revolves around the Conehead family, newly landed on Earth from the planet Remulak, who find themselves trying to dodge two Immigration and Naturalization officers.

In perhaps the film's best bit of sustained lunacy, we see the maturing of young Connie through a montage of grainy Super-8 home movies which flit past to the tune of Paul Simon's “Kodachrome” -- as silly as it sounds, it's one of the best extended gags I've seen in too long.

Coneheads was one of the few films created from a Saturday Night Live sketch that actually “got over” with the crowds.
Few films can boast that type of entertainment; most have scenes that drone on or pasts that are just plain filler.
Unlike most alien films where the characters point a finger and set things on fire — these characters are more than happy to blend in with the humans until they are saved.

Traveling to Earth from the planet Remulak, Beldar and Prymaat Conehead (Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtain), are bent on world domination when their plans of conquest are foiled as their ship is shot down over the New Jersey shoreline.
One of the series' most famous recurring skits was one that involved an alien family stranded on Earth and the trials and tribulations associated with life in the suburbs outside of New York.
There was an absurdity about the Coneheads and the sense that the SNL writers were turning a mirror onto American life and the things we always took for granted.
