Confessor is a band that some might remember, while many others will probably not, that has reunited to once again grace the scene of metal.
Confessor's original appearance was short lived in the late 80s and early 90s.
Confessor blended mid to slow tempo grooves that embodied many different time signatures instead of opting for the frenetically paced thrash or early blasting death metal popular at the time.

As with most things its only with hindsight that many people have come to appreciate just how great Confessor were, and the contribution they made to shaking the scene up during that early 90's period.
Confessor came about back in 1986 when Scott and Graham's high school band broke up and they got together with my brother (Jim Shoaf) to jam.
Even the look of Confessor was different; in the promo photos there was a slightly hippy-ish/Eastern feel to Scott that set you apart from the other bands of the time who all wore band T-shirts at every opportunity.

The word confessor is derived from the Latin confiteri, to confess, to profess, but it is not found in writers of the classical period, having been first used by the Christians.
With them it was a title of honour to designate those brave champions of the Faith who had confessed Christ publicly in time of persecution and had been punished with imprisonment, torture, exile, or labour in the mines, remaining faithful in their confession until the end of their lives.

Neko Case: Fox Confessor Brings The Flood (2006): Reviews
Fox Confessor Brings The Flood is a rich, mature and deeply satisfying piece of music that deserves and demands attention -- if this isn't Album of the Year material, it's hard to say what is.
On 'Fox Confessor Brings The Flood' Neko's voice and sheer poetry of her song-writing make hyped also-rans like Jenny Lewis look like hot-pant wearing desperados, proving to her rivals and beyond that style and substance aren't mutually exclusive.
The new album Fox Confessor is really good but not a classic as Blacklisted surely is. Her vox is a wonder of the world though.

Yet in the present day, with the monothelete controversy long passed and the dythelete position having been accepted as a basic tenet of orthodoxy, the question of why this idea was of such central importance to so important a figure as Maximos becomes of heightened interest.
It is precisely because the Confessor presents us with a remarkable insight into this very question, that he has remained so influential a theologian throughout Christian history.

Once dubbed "the world's most obstinately technical metal band", CONFESSOR never failed to bewilder their fans with ability to follow huge gut-wrenching guitar harmonies and wailing vocals with intricately woven riffs that could not be assigned time signatures.
CONFESSOR has reformed and is ready to show the metal universe what it has missed for ten long years.

Her role as producer is profoundly felt, as styles, influences and sonic signatures from dozens of musical traditions thread through the new songs, leaving the echo of their passing but combine to create a sound at once foreign and familiar.
Lyrically reflective and self-assessing, the twelve songs on the Fox Confessor are cast in a tone that is at once resigned (“Hold On, Hold On”) yet far from pessimistic (“Maybe Sparrow“).
Indeed, the poetics on Fox Confessor Brings The Flood quite often transcend the secondary aspect of contemporary song lyrics, yielding finely detailed macro-observations while maintaining empathy for individuals who may be imperfect, or foolish, but are never to be trivialized.

If they consult only one confessor, they think they are acting in the interests of their Order and for the greater honour of their convent: and that is the way the devil lays his snares for souls when he can find no other.
You might suppose that any confessor would know this, but you would be wrong: it happened that I had to go about matters of consciences to a man who had taken a complete course in theology; and he did me a great deal of mischief by telling me that certain things were of no importance.
