Conformation show - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Conformation shows are typically held under the auspices of a national kennel club.
Strictly speaking, a dog show is not exactly a comparison of one dog to another, it is a comparison of each dog to a judge's concept of the ideal specimen as dictated by the breed standard, containing the attributes of a given breed and a list of conformation points.
The smallest are the Companion Shows, where there are usually a few conformation classes for pedigree dogs, and several "novelty" classes, such as waggiest tail and handsomest dog, which are open to any dog including crossbreeds.

 Borzoi Club of America
Borzoi are entered in conformation shows by their owners for many purposes; to receive evaluations from licensed judges, to compete for an American Kennel Club championship, to improve the breed by comparing entered animals with each other as potential breeding stock and to present our best representatives of the breed to an interested public.
There are two types of conformation shows; specialty shows put on by individual breed clubs (such as the Borzoi Club of America and other local or regional Borzoi clubs) and all-breed shows held by all-breed clubs (examples being the numerous local kennel clubs).
If after a number of shows, you are sure you are grooming and handling acceptably well and your Borzoi has shown its heart out for you and for some reason the two of you as a team are not competitive, remember that not every dog is a show dog.

Damascusroad Pomeranians: What is a Standard?
In the case of a Conformation Show, it is the CKC approved judge who performs the evaluation and judges each dog entered in the show according to its own Breed Standard, and not according to other dogs presented in the ring.
Conformation Show Judges are licensed by the CKC, and charged with evaluating the quality of each dog in relation to its own Breed Standard, and not against other breeds of dogs entered or based on personal preference.
The Conformation Show ring is very competitive, and the Best in Show, the highest award, is determined through a process of elimination which each dog entered in the Show being judged according to its own Breed Standard.
