The Congaree Vista or "the Vista" as it is commonly known, is the city's historic commercial district, and it is becoming one of the city's most vibrant areas for shopping, dining and night life.

When Bill Dukes put in the Longhorn restaurant, the Vista suddenly looked to be in it for the long run.
Taxpayers already spent millions renovating Capital City Stadium for the team just 10 years ago, at which time the owner called it his "field of dreams." Taxpayer funding of arenas and stadiums at the major league level to court billionaire team owners is bad enough; at the minor league level it is simply embarrassing.
A final note: Anyone who likes any part of the Vista should go by Finlay Park and sit on the bench with the statue of the late mayor Kirk Finlay and say "thank you." Though he didn't live to see it fulfilled, it was his vision that started it all.

The Vista is filled with good, locally-owned restaurants and pubs, and folks flock there.
