Music Underwater Review: The Foreign Exchange-Connected
Connected starts out with an unusual overture, featuring a diverse mix of beats, soulful melodies, "ooh-aahs," and jazz.
This is something of a mission statement for the album: raw rapping and rhyming backed by bass-infused beats and jazz melodies.
Connected is a hell of an album that has taken whatever expectations I had for it, kicked them in the nuts, and thrown them out the back door.

The Foreign Exchange “Connected” Review — Soulmind Online Archive
The CD booklet allows a little peak into their afternoon, as the dynamics of the two musicians that are separated by so much land and sea are countered in photo form by vivid portraits of togetherness and unity.
This is the brightest representation of Connected, because it offers both artists at their best; guest Big Pooh, who performs on a lot of the record, expresses the woes of the independent musician, similar to those recently expressed by other indie masters of the game such as Jean Grae or Brother Ali.
The Connected album is defintely one of the most suprising and most inspiring albums in 2005.

While recording his own debut album Doggystyle with Dre in August of 1993, Snoop Dogg was arrested in the shooting death of Phillip Woldermarian, a member of a rival gang who was later revealed to have had a secret obsession with Snoop.
The Doggystyle album was released in November of 1993 on Death Row Records, and became the first debut album ever to enter the charts at number one, helping to fuel the ascendance of West Coast "G Funk" rap.
However, by the time Snoop's second album Tha Doggfather was released in November of 1996, both the furor and the popularity of gangsta rap had begun to fade, dragged down by the death of Snoop's friend Tupac Shakur and the racketeering indictment of Death Row co-founder Suge Knight.

While Phonte serves as the duo’s main vocalist, the group is quick to point out that Connected is not a "Phonte solo album," and is instead an ensemble record with Nicolay and Phonte acting as the project’s conductors.
The album then closes with a couple of Remixes which are nice, but don't add anything exceptional to the album.
In the case of "Connected" by The Foreign Exchange, I think it is. The Foreign Exchange consists of two people, Phonte of sensational rap group Little Brother, and producer Nicolay.

CONNECTED is the third release from the Stereo MC's, a London trio of remixers who ferment their unique blend of rap, R&B and dance music with a healthy blend of European techno, dub and cool jazz, putting them in the vanguard of the music's new wave along with such irrefutably hip hoppers as Digable Planets.
Augmented by the vocal trio of Cath Coffey, Verona Davis and Andrea Groves, CONNECTED is a brave new vision of dance music, as illustrated by the sultry title track, with its swampy rhythmic underpinning, '60s soul jazz punctuations, beefy bass line and its incantory chants, urging onthe dancers to greater self-expression, personal responsibility and intellectual curiosity.
