This data was correlated to land use in each lake’s watershed, and it was found that the least eutrophic lakes occurred where the watersheds were primarily forested whereas the most eutrophic lakes were situated in areas with greater urbanization.
The second lake, Malleys Pond, was similar, however, the lake owners decided to have it drained and dredged in the 1980’s.
Because the water in the lake had lower levels than the inflow stream, the lake was probably accumulating P. The same trend occurred in Clear Lake, however, both the P level in its inflow stream and the P level in the lake water was on average 6 ppb higher than the levels in Malleys Pond.
