Conor Lenihan is the son of former Fianna Fail Tánaiste Brian Lenihan.
Conor's aunt, Mary O'Rourke is the current Leader of Fianna Fail in the Seanad (Senate) while his brother, Brian Lenihan, Jr is also a Minister of State.
Lenihan was involved in some controversy on May 18, 2005, when off microphone he told opposition TD Joe Higgins of the Socialist Party that he should "stick to the kebabs", a reference to the Turkish workers aided by Higgins who were exploited by their employer "GAMA".

The Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern has attempted to draw a line under the controversy surrounding the junior minister in his department, Conor Lenihan, who told a TD working on behalf of Turkish migrant workers to "stick with the kebabs" during a Dáil debate.
Mr Lenihan, who is Minister of State for Overseas Development, has now apologised to the Dáil and personally to Socialist TD Joe Higgins over the remarks, which have led to calls for the Minister's resignation.
Mr Higgins said Mr Lenihan's apology was not satisfactory, and he should give a more expanded explanation before the Dáil today, along with definitive proposals by the Government to address the ongoing issue surrounding the Gama workers.

The Socialist Party TD, Joe Higgins, has said that the Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Conor Lenihan, should resign his post if he was referring to the Turkish GAMA Construction workers as kebabs.
Mr Higgins was speaking on RTÉ's News At One in response to comments made by Mr Lenihan in the Dáil this morning in which he urged Mr Higgins, who has campaigned on behalf of the Turkish GAMA workers, to 'stick with the kebabs'.
Speaking in Dublin tonight, Minister Ahern said Conor Lenihan was contrite and as far as he was concerned that was the end of the matter.

On the other hand the Trots and their supporters in the Unions provoke a group of workers into ill-judged action with little regard for the consequences when they return home, as return they must, to a society where ‘rip-off’ and vendetta have been elevated to an art form.
In the middle is Conor Lenihan, his biggest mistake was to give oxygen to an issue which SIPTU officials know was in the process of reaching a resolution, ask the less political among them.
