Consejo is a fishing village located 8 miles northeast of Corozal Town and about 2 miles south of Chetumal, Q.R., Mexico.
It once was the highway customs stop between Belize and Chetumal and therefore, "the end of the road", since the final portion of this journey would have to be across the water.

Belmopan, estimated population 7,000, is the capital of Belize.
Belmopan was constructed just to the east of Belize River, 80 km (50 miles) inland from the former capital, the port of Belize City, after that city's near destruction by a hurricane in 1961.

if you say chetumal, it means to them that you are going to belize and they want you to get a transmigration visa which entails a visit to a mexican consulate in the states and usually an agent.
i could add a little info about sailing from chetumal to belize city and further down but i'll save that for people who are actually going - it's not that relevant here on this thread and it takes a lot of time to write this stuff up.

It was 11am when I finally boarded a cab for the trip to consejo.
I had him drop me back in Corozal at the “best belize restaurant in town.” Pork chops with mushrooms and onions over rice, lemon pie.
