The Conservative Party of Romania (Romanian: Partidul Conservator) was formed in 1991, after the fall of Communism, under the name of the Romanian Humanist Party (Partidul Umanist Român, PUR).
The Conservative Party was founded as the Romanian Humanist Party (PUR) on December 18, 1991.
The president of the party, Dan Voiculescu, was accused to be a former member of the Securitate (the former communist political police), but he successfully sued all the journalists spreading this slander.
