In 1970, James Buckley, brother of William, was elected to the U.S. Senate as a Conservative Party candidate; however, in 1976, he ran for reelection as a candidate of the Republican and Conservative Parties, losing to Daniel Patrick Moynihan.
In the 2004 U.S. Senate election, the Conservative Party endorsed Marilyn O'Grady to oppose Republican candidate Howard Mills and incumbent Democratic Senator Charles Schumer.
For example, the Conservative Party withheld its support from Republican Rudy Giuliani's fusion campaigns for New York City mayor in 1989, 1993 and 1997; its lack of support in 1989 was one important factor in Giuliani losing that year.

American Reform Party of NEW YORK
Parties that previously had ballot access -- the Liberals, Greens and Right to Lifers -- are now too weak to overcome the state's arcane ballot access laws and the major-party lawyers to even get a whiff of being on the ballot here in Suffolk.
My announcement is this: A new state party is forming affiliated with the national American Reform Party, and it will run independent and reform-minded candidates in Suffolk County (and hopefully elsewhere) in 2005 and statewide candidates in 2006, hoping to get the minimum number of votes needed to attain official ballot status.
New York State is one of the worst in the country in this regard.

Kennedy shared some facts about New York City bars and restaurants that may be favorable to the smoking ban: "Bars and restaurants paid the city 12% more in business taxes in the six months since the ban took effect than in the same six-month period in 2002.

Through the years Bay State conservatives have tried, several times, to organize a conservative party on the model of the Conservative Party of New York State which, since 1962, has been an important force in New York politics as a conservative alternative to the New York Republican Party.
Simply put, in New York, a candidate may be endorsed by more than one party and appear on the ballot with each endorsement.
Strangely (or perhaps not so strangely given their history of withdrawing from the political discourse just at the times when they are most likely to succeed) the conservatives who for years voiced their dream of a Conservative Party on the model of that in New York, are silent on Question 2.

New York State, unlike most states, has long permitted cross-endorsement, allowing a candidate to be the nominee of several parties simultaneously.
Since these are state parties, they have been ignored by the national media, so it will come as a surprise to most New Yorkers that California now has six official political parties—one more than New York State.
Even though these four official third parties in California are relegated to the status of protest parties because of the state ban on cross-endorsement, they regularly attract very considerable support.
