The original stadium, then known as Stade Emile, was first constructed back in 1917, consisting at the time of a single wooden stand.
Fast forward to 1983, and president Constant Vanden Stock began pouring millions of Belgian Francs into the complete reconstruction of what is now a truly world class stadium (if a little bit on the small side).
The Vanden Stock has an overall capacity of 28,400, and as is common in a number of European countries, standing accommodation is still available behind both goals (although regulations decree that these areas are closed for UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup matches).

The 1-0 loss at the hands of AEK Athens three weeks ago has left Claude Puel's second-placed outfit just one point ahead of the Greek side, who this week face AC Milan in the penultimate round of group fixtures.
And while Milan top Group H at present, their disappointing form in Serie A suggests that AEK are more then capable of getting a positive result at the Spyros Louis Stadium, leaving Lille desperate for all three points against Anderlecht in the race for the second qualifying berth.
However, it took a late Nicolas Fauvergue strike to salvage a point for Lille in the first encounter between the two sides at the Constant Vanden Stock stadium in September, so the French club will not be underestimating their opponents.
