Constantine Movie - The Hollywood News
As Constantine attempts to get to the bottom of this unsettling development, he is lead to police officer Angela Dodson, a grief-stricken woman who is mourning the loss of her twin sister.
Constantine opens Angela’s eyes to a world she never consciously knew existed, and together, the odd pair (or God Couple) embark on a harrowing journey to discover the source of the evil that is plaguing their lives.
Her reason for deciding to become involved with Constantine is one of the most compelling and dramatic aspects of the film.

 Constantine - Movie Review
Now an adult, Constantine (Keanu Reeves) knows all too well where he is headed the next time he dies, and so, in a self-serving attempt to earn admission to Heaven instead, he has dedicated himself to deporting back to Hell any demons who cross the line on Earth.
John Constantine started life as a secondary character in Alan Moore's DC Comics series 'Swamp Thing', before becoming the centre of attention in Jamie Delano and Garth Ennis' spin-off comic 'Hellblazer'.
'Constantine', you see, is concerned less with demonic chopsocky than with allegorising the eternal conflict between good and evil, sin and redemption (note the main character's initials) - which is why right from the outset it aligns itself directly to that other horror film with a strongly theological bent, 'The Exorcist'.

 Djimon Hounsou: Constantine - Movie
Constantine is the story of a demonologist/exorcist who was born with the unique and uncanny abilities to see and combat demons(and angels), and other creatures from hell.
For example: in the first 45 minutes of Constantine, John Constantine is continuously smoking cigarettes, and we are shown (quite often) the severity of his lung cancer.
Constantine is a very bad adaptation of the Comic book called Hellblazer and when I say bad, I do mean bad.

Flipside Movie Emporium: Constantine Movie Review
Constantine, lifted from the Hellblazer books of their Vertigo line, is more John Milton than Stan Lee.
Its universe is threatened not by mad scientists or egomaniacal conquerors, but by villains of a much older bent: the minions of Hell engaged in their eternal chess match with God's heavenly host.
Constantine won't set any new standards for comic-book films, but it's good enough and consistent enough to keep its parent company in the race.

John thanks him, light up a cigarette with a heavily ornamented gold lighter (he does it a lot in the movie) and walks up to the girl’s room, where the girl was tied to her bed.
Constantine tells her of the devil’s bible, which has a chapter 17 and tells a very different picture of the Revelation.
But John Constantine just can't resist flipping the Devil the "bird" one last time as he ascends, pissing him off to the extent that the Devil rips Constantine back from Heaven, cures him of terminal lung cancer (and slit wrists) and sets him back here on earth to fight evil another day.

Constantine Movie Review at Hollywood Video
John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) is a noir-ish, cynical operative whose specialty is beating back Satan and his minions, keeping them on their side of an inter-dimensional fence.
During Constantine's visits to Hell, he's pursued by a horde of brainless, Gollum-like demons…when we say "brainless," we mean, "no head from the upper jaw up," with their yawning brainpans shaped like toilet bowls.
There are also documentary bits on Vermin Man, the movie's version of Hell, Gabriel's angel wings, the pre-production animatics for given scenes, and the scene where Satan sucks Angela backwards through a building and straight to Hell, as she crashes through walls and an entire cube-farm of Herman Miller units along the way.

Frank's Reel Reviews: Movie Review of Constantine
Resigned to his ultimate fate, Constantine is a droll, bitter demon-fighter that, as Reeves puts it, "prefers not to get close to people because they tend to die." Not sure if Constantine's lack of emotion is Keanu molding himself into his character or the filmmakers writing down to his abilities…probably the latter.
During their investigation, Constantine begins to realize he is not quite prepared for the dual role of demon-slayer and murder investigator as their search for answers takes them literally to hell and back.
Constantine is a shocking yet entertaining supernatural thriller, as visually stimulating as it is thought provoking.

Constantine was revived, however, and now he wanders the earth, trying to earn his way back into heaven by blowing Satan’s minions back to the underworld.
The movie’s visual style and iconography, of sorts, are grounded in Catholic Christianity, though familiarity with Catholicism is not a prerequisite for following the story, according to Lawrence.

Constantine (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Constantine is a 2005 film based on the Hellblazer comic book, with some plot elements being taken from the "Dangerous Habits" arc (issues #41-46).
It was released on February 8, 2005 in Hong Kong, and on February 18, 2005 in the U.S. and Canada.
In Los Angeles we see John Constantine perform an exorcism on a young female teenager; although he is successful he is unnerved by the boldness of the demon, who attempted to leave the girl's body to cross over into humankind's realm.

 The Trades - Constantine
So I write this review as I went into "Constantine," a movie based on the DC Comics graphic novel Hellblazer, viewing it like most audiences will, from the perspective of one who knows only as much about the story's universe as is presented by the movie's advertising.
So Constantine knows that when his rapidly diminishing time is finally up, he's f***ed (as the angel Gabriel so bluntly puts it to him.) Constantine believes his only hope of getting into Heaven is to score brownie points with God by sending as many demons back to Hell as he can.
The world of "Constantine" is not unlike that of contemporary vampire movies like "Blade" and "Underworld," where hybrid demons have their own secret nouveau-riche-beatnik club hangouts.

In perhaps the most glaring example, Constantine says that because he’s a suicide that he’s trying to perform enough “good” works to get into Heaven (which in and of itself is the fallacious thinking that Catholics can work or buy their way into Heaven).
Constantine, a chain-smoker, is dying of vicious lung cancer and is diagnosed with only weeks to live.

MovieFreak.com - "Constantine" Movie Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
Keanu Reeves’ central character is so consumed by his addiction, so unable to quit even with the certain knowledge of imminent death and a literal trip to purgatory weighing on his conscience that I really can’t think of a better filmed depiction of the terribly corrosive power of tobacco.
The story of John Constantine (Reeves), a man who knows there is both a Heaven and a Hell and that he’s slated to go headfirst into the latter, this movie sounds almost fun on paper.
The movie is such a complete muddled waste of time and talent (and what exactly is Shia LaBeouf doing running around as a pre-pubescent cab driving geek?) and is so devoid of a single original idea all it really does is make you want to scream.

The movie stars Keanu Reeves as a detective that deals with the supernatural who helps a female police officer (Rachel Weisz) fight against the forces of evil in order to save her twin sister's soul from the forces of evil.
Unfortunately, Constantine himself is not that interesting and Keanu Reeves comes out looking like he's trying out for the next Batman movie with his way too grim performance.

The scene where Constantine fights the demon that killed his friend should have been a major moment, but not only was the fight nothing to be excited about, but Lawrence never suggested to us, the audience, through his use of directing tricks, that we should even consider getting excited about it.

Constantine is a rare creation, a comic book-based movie that actually raises some philosophical questions worth thinking about.
Now a chain-smoking investigator of the supernatural, Constantine is a man desperately searching for redemption and trying to earn his way back into God’s good graces before either Satan or his smoking habit prove to be his undoing.
Based on the DC/Vertigo Hellblazer comics, Constantine may not be faithful enough to its source material for the true believers, but it hits enough of the right marks to stand on its own for those less familiar with its origins.

 Constantine movie review
The world of John Constantine, as imagined by Brit comic book veterans Jamie Delano and Garth Ennis in their Hellblazer series, is a fanboy’s wet dream.
Born with the ability to see the demons and angels around him, he once tried to kill himself and survived; unfortunately, God’s zero-tolerance policy against suicide means he’s doomed to Hell— and since he’s dying of lung cancer, he may get there sooner rather than later.
A noir anti-hero dripping with cynicism and possessed of an unbreakable code of honor, the character of Constantine is a far cry from Neo’s Zen Superman act, and to his credit Reeves does succeed in creating a unique character.
