  Costas Simitis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Constantinos Simitis (Greek: Κωνσταντίνος Σημίτης) (born June 23, 1936), usually referred to as Costas Simitis, was Prime Minister of Greece and leader of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) from 1996 to 2004.
Simitis was not a candidate for the Greek Parliament in the 1981 elections, but he was appointed Minister of Agriculture in the first PASOK government of that year.
Simitis was elected leader of PASOK on June 30, defeating Akis Tsochatzopoulos on a platform of support for the European Union.

Vandals desecrated the Memorial dedicated to the thousands of Greek Jews who perished during the Holocaust, located in a 13th century Jewish cemetery in the northwestern city of Ioannina, with slogans such as "Death to Jews" and "Jews Out".
"We respectfully urge the government of Greece to publicly denounce this attack and to thoroughly investigate this incident and expeditiously bring to justice the perpetrators," Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, wrote in a letter to Constantine Simitis, Prime Minister of Greece.
None of the gravestones were vandalized, although vandals damaged three gravestones at the cemetery nearly two years ago.
