The CLP, or more specifically its GC, elects representatives to national Party structures, including Labour Party Conference and may nominate candidates for election to other Party structures such as the National Policy Forum and the National Executive Committee, plus their equivalents in Scotland, Wales and the English Regions.
The Labour Party Conference, or annual national conference of the Labour Party, is formally the supreme decision-making body of the Party.
The number of constituency parties affiliated rose from 73 in 1906 to 179 by 1914 and before the outbreak of war prevented the expected election, Labour was prepared to field a record number of candidates.

The 1945 Labour government is rightly remembered as one of the most radical and ambitious governments ever: taking into public ownership a number of industries, creating a national contributory insurance scheme and, under the leadership of fiery Welshman Nye Bevan, creating the National Health Service.
This was followed in 1960 by the passing of a party conference motion in support of unilateral nuclear disarmament, against the advice of the leadership.
His speech to the 1985 Party Conference, where he attacked Militant from the platform, was seen as a sign of the new Labour leader's courage and commitment to change.

The CLP selects the local Labour Party candidate for a national parliamentary election (general election) (although the National Executive Committee controversially has powers to overrule this decision in certain circumstances).
The CLPs consist primarily of individual Labour Party members (those who have joined the Labour Party of their own accord), but meetings may also be attended by members of affiliated organizations (for example, local trade unions or co-operative societies which have affiliated to the CLP).
For much of Labour history, including during the 1980s, the CLPs were perceived as the most leftwing faction in the Labour Party, with the unions actually being a more moderate or pragmatic force.

I would therefore ask the Electoral Commission to use its powers under the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000 to carry out a general investigation of the accounts of the Labour Party and all Constituency Labour Parties in Scotland in order to ensure that donations that should have been declared have been declared.

The question that is now being asked is it time for the NEC to be abolished since a majority of members regard it as an irrelevant, time serving relic, which no longer represents the views of the majority of the membership, at this time.
Clearly, when four fifths of the party membership did even trouble to participate in this poll, then this election is meaningless.
