Constituent Countries - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The use of the term 'constituent country' to describe legal entities which are not states may be disputed by people who consider the UK itself to be a country in its own right and not simply a legal union of constituent countries.
The term 'constituent countries' is used by official government bodies, such as the Office for National Statistics.
The fourth part of the UK — Northern Ireland — is considered to be neither a country nor a nation in its own right, but rather a part of a nation or a country or a state (which nation or country or state depends on political standpoint).

Each report also compares findings, where possible, to a reference group.  The 27 countries with very low child and adult mortality, designated Eur-A by the World Health Organization, make up the reference group used in this report.
To make the comparisons as valid as possible, data, as a rule, are taken from one source to ensure that they have been harmonized in a reasonably consistent way.

 1000-011.gtr.doc
It is assumed that future rates of improvement will be the same for all constituent countries of the UK as for England & Wales combined.
However, the initial levels of mortality in the base year for each individual country to which these improvements are applied are obtained by adjusting those for England & Wales combined according to the recent mortality data for each individual country compared to that for England & Wales combined.
The assumptions regarding fertility, mortality and net migration are based on statistical evidence available at the time the projections are carried out and are reassessed for each new set of projections, the most recent set being those using a base year of 1998, which were published on the GAD and ONS websites in November 1999.
