There are too many posts on alt.noise concerning how to build contact microphones, and to my knowledge, nobody ever posted a page like this in response.
Clip off any excess wire that protrudes from the contact points (the white wire goes through the a hole, cut off the excess once it is soldered into place).

Electret microphones have existed since the 1920s but were considered impractical, but have now become the most common type of all, used in many applications from high-quality public address to built-in microphones in small sound recording devices.
In the dynamic microphone a small movable induction coil, positioned in the magnetic field of a permanent magnet, is attached to the diaphragm.
In ribbon microphones a thin, usually corrugated metal ribbon is suspended in a magnetic field: vibration of the ribbon in the magnetic field generates a changing current.

C-ducer - contact microphone, piano, sound reinforcement
C-ducer contact microphones are used on a wide variety of instruments, guitar, violin, drums, banjos, harpsichord, harp and many others but perhaps with most success on the piano.
The C-ducer contact microphone is completely unobtrusive, being mounted on the underneath of the grand piano the back of an upright piano.
Becuase the microphone is attached directly to the soundboard, it has very high immunity to crosstalk from other instruments and feedback is rarely a problem, the sound quality is excellent making it the preferred microphone for Piano players and sound engineers.

The C-ducer (Capacitive-trans-ducer) is a contact condenser microphone.
It is light in weight so as to minimize interference with the vibration of the instrument to which it is attached, and it has a phenomenal dynamic range (the transducer itself has a dynamic capability of> 155dB) and can handle the amplitudes within a bass drum without distrortion.
The shorter length is suitable for smaller instruments (violin, folk harp, banjo etc.) and the longer tape is designed for other acoustic stringed instruments (double-bass, cello, acoustic guitar etc.), drums and

 Helpinstill Piano Pickups
For the same reason that feedback is practically impossible, the signal from the Helpinstill contains no sounds of other instruments around the piano.
Unlike pickups on the soundboard that produce a wooden, colored sound, or conventional microphones, which can make the piano sound far away, the Helpinstill sends the original vibrations of the strings (the source of the piano's sound) directly to your speakers where the piano sound is reproduced.
Every note on the piano can be exactly the same volume, eliminating dead zones and weak areas.
