Match line sensing amplifier for content addressable memory patent
When the contents stored in the CAM memory storage location match the data in the comparand register, the local match detection circuit returns a match indication.
A CAM is a memory device that accelerates any application requiring fast searches of a database, list, or pattern, such as in database machines, image or voice recognition, or computer and communication networks.
In addition, the CAM may return the identification of the address/memory storage location in which the desired data is stored or one of such addresses, such as a highest priority match address, if more than one corresponding CAM storage location contained matching data.

Kostas Pagiamtzis :: Content-Addressable Memory (CAM) Primer
Content-addressable memories (CAMs) are hardware search engines that are much faster than algorithmic approaches for search-intensive applications.
CAMs are composed of conventional semiconductor memory (usually SRAM) with added comparison circuitry that enable a search operation to complete in a single clock cycle.
The match address output of the CAM is in fact a pointer used to retrieve associated data from the RAM.

CSD-NOVEMBER 1999: Using Content-Addressable Memory for Networking Applications
CAM provides a performance advantage over other memory search algorithms (such as binary and tree-based searches or look-aside tag buffers) by comparing the desired information against the entire list of prestored entries simultaneously, often resulting in an order-of-magnitude reduction of search time.
CAM is ideally suited for several functions, including Ethernet address lookup, data compression, pattern-recognition, cache tags, high-bandwidth address filtering, and fast lookup of routing, high-bandwidth address filtering, user privilege, security, or encryption information on a packet-by-packet basis for high-performance data switches, firewalls, bridges, and routers.
The CAM compares the received data against the table that has been stored within, and if the comparison yields a match, the port identification is given, and routing control forwards the packet to the correct port or address (see Figure 2).

Content addressable Memory Introduction: CAM is designed to enhance data retrieval speed from a particular location in a storage array.
In their system called the Crytron Catalog Memory, a pattern of bits was input in parallel to the memory and an output line indicated whether a match was found.
The cache memory system is managed by an intelligent circuit called the cache memory controller.

Virtual cache system using page level number generating CAM to access other memories for processing requests relating to a page - Patent 4785398
The contents of PAC memory 14-408 are addressable by any 20-bit page frame number (PFN) portion of a memory physical address of a write command applied to system bus 12 by another one of the other subsystems of FIG.
The cache memory of the present invention utilizes a physical address CAM which is coupled to respond to the addresses of data being written into main memory by any other processing unit.
The BTA memory 14-414 also is connected to receive block number (BN) address signals from the address bus of system bus 12 which have been previously stored in a snoop register of block 14-450 in response to a bus write command.

DUO - Digital utgivelse ved Universitetet i Oslo - A Variable Word-Width Content Addressable Memory (CAM) for Fast String Matching
Content Addressable Memories (CAMs) are known to be fast string matchers, but offer little flexibility.
A typical feature for this CAM is that the length of each word is independent from the others, in contrast to common CAMs where all words have the same length.
To be able to effectively reconfigure the CAM, a software technique has been developed for creating the VHDL code.
