		The notion of contraband indicates any item which, relating to its nature, is illegal to be possessed, sold etcetera.
		In the American Civil War, the word contraband was used to describe runaway slaves encountered by Union soldiers.
		The term was first used by Brigadier General Benjamin Butler, and gained broad usage during and after the war.

		Contraband is an album by Velvet Revolver, which was released on June 8, 2004 through RCA Records.
		It recorded its first album Contraband in the latter part of 2003 with recording complicated by Weiland's court appearances for drug charges and his subsequent sentencing to undertake rehabilitation.
		The Contraband album was released in June 2004 debuting at #1 on the Billboard album charts #11 on the British album charts and #2 in Australia.

		For me I am thankful for both albums, along with the last Foo Fighters record, in that there is hope that the idea of being able to play your instrument may become important once again.
		Another smokin’ track from Contraband is “Headspace,” which also launches into the kind of riff-based rock song that you would likely play if you were about to go on a high speed chase in a classic Pontiac GTO on the freeways of Southern California.
		Contraband is the rock record of the summer.

		It a really well produced album and most of the song structures and perfect, because of their expertise and history as awesome writers.
		Opens the album with rhythm guitar playing some quick little arpeggios with Slash fooling around in the background then all instruments jump in at a freewheeling pace that Stone Temple Pilots’s, Scott Weiland is barely able to sing at the right pace.
		Other than the normal power ballad this album seems to have two, this although seems more of a song for a smaller audience, rather than “Fall to Pieces”, which will be played at baseball games for the next years,.

		Contraband is everything you could want from a debut, as far from Guns N Roses as you could possible think, although retaining that tell-tale Slash guitar style, the tracks prove that VR are very talented musicians who have bravely, and successfully, taken on brining back rock and metal to the public again.
		Due to this general god-like musicianship that is found on this album, i suspect "contraband" will be one of those timeless classic CDs that will be rocked to for many years to come.
		There have been some great rock albums in the last ten years but this is by far my favourite, oh fuck it just listen to it as loud as you can.

		Being a fan of all (quality) rock, primarily from the glorious 70's and 80's, I hoped that this album could present somewhat of a shining beacon in the proverbial dearth that is the modern music scene.
		Scott rules this album prooves that axl was not he backbone to guns n roses and that these dudes can still rock despite their age.
		Not only do i have the album i ve also seen them live twice they are an awesome band this album is incredible not a single song is not incredible or average everything is 5stars.

		However for those who bought the Digipack version of the album, the UK bonus track of "Bodies" a cover of The Sex Pistols is a treat well worth spending the extra money on.
		Although the music on this album is top notch (classic heavy rock by slash and the boys) the singing leaves ALOTT to be desired.
		Personnaly if you like slash i would recomend any of the guns n roses albums (obviously)and also slashs snake pits second album "aint life grand" which is far better than this.

		What interest me most about this album is not the hard melodic riffs in "Headspace", or the future #1 ballads to come, it is the PURE potential that this band has.
		An aurally interesting album, that lets you hear not only how these guys have come together as a stomping rock band, but also the influence they had on the sound of their previous bands.
		Scott's vocals show that the trials and tribulations of his personal life have not affected his range or power of voice, and the command that slash and duff have over their instruments is impressive.

		For mine, however, one of the biggest surprises of Contraband is rythmn guitarist Dave Kushner really holding his own and not disappearing into the massive shadow of lead guitarist Slash.
		Lyrically, the album is nothing revolutionary, but I wouldn’t really expect too much more of Weiland, who is definitely far better known for his fantastic range and ability to convey emotion as one of the best rock frontmen in recent history, a reputation he most certainly maintains throughout this album.

		It's not even the best rock n roll album of the past five years (and those that think it is, I would suggest you haven't been looking hard enough).

		I dunno much STP or anything like that, but just from this album i can see Weiland has a talent for writing some damn good vocal melodies, but his lyrics don't stay with you at all, not even after 5 or so listens, but you'll definitly be humming it.
		I don't think it's going to go down as one of the greatest albums of all time, but it's a good, straight up rock album, which is what VR was going for.
		This album is amazeing, and i garuentee after a couple listen to the real alubm this tuesday like 3/4 of the people on here will change their tune.
