	Science Fair Projects - Klinik
		Klinik is an industrial music band from Belgium, originally formed in 1981 or 1982 by EBM, electro-synthpop practitioner Marc Verhaeghen, who is the only constant member.
		The Klinik soon made a name for themselves with their cold and harsh EBM sound and their live shows, where both Ivens and Verhaeghen performed with their heads wrapped in gauze, wearing long fl leather coats.
		Verhaeghen has been involved in several projects outside Klinik, including Noise Unit (with Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber of Front Line Assembly), D.Sign (with Philippe and Eliane Fichot of Die Form), X10 (with Niki Mono, Marc Ickx of A Split Second and Vidna Obmana), and Para (with his own wife Sabine Voss).

		The rest of the album follows this formula – this is not going to offend anyone, and is a good album to put on when all you want to do is curl up on a sofa and chill out.
		While their previous album could have claimed to have some EBM leanings, all of that has been left behind on this release – may I draw your attention to the cover of Faithless’ ‘God is a DJ’ – more on this later.
		In contrast to a lot of US synthpop, which can be a bit too nice for it's own good this is the take no prisoners sound of the post-holocaust world as seen through the eyes of a new anti-hero.

	THE INDUSTRY
		It's known that the Klinik was formed by the union of Marc Verhaeghen with Eric Van Wonterghen and Dirk Ivens, formerly from Absolute Body Control.
		But shortly after, in 92 he continued the Klinik alone, releasing an album (Contrast), released by Antler Subway, and a split single with Paracont (Brain/Get out), released by Gothic Arts, an a live album and video these were the last Klinik releases on Antler Subway.
		The Klinik released an album(Awake) in 96 and a single in a split release in the same year, in 98 came the Blanket of Fog with a techno oriented style, but still recogniseable with the Klinik's trade mark style.

		The whole album seems a bit limp really, nothing is fundamentally wrong with it but it doesn't stand by itself let alonewhen compared to say Wolfpact.
		The 9 tracks chronicle the events of the Seattle killings, examining the motivations and emotions, killer and victims- rape, misogyny and sadism are the keywords for this bleak trawl through man's dark corners.
		I do however feel this album was intended for a more mainstream environment as every part is put together with such precision, and the production sounds richer than a lot of current favourites in 'Radio one land' it's annoyingly good and something I can appreciate the quality of.

	Klinik: Sonic Surgery - Release Music Magazine review
		People may remember them for their string of memorable club hits in the 80:s such as "Fever" or "Moving Hands" but this new album could not be further from those roots.
		For one thing, the only original member who remains is founder Marc Verhaeghen, the man responsible for keeping Klinik afloat after the 1991 split which sundered the infamous line-up of Verhaeghen and Dirk Ivens.
		Starting with 1993's "Contrast" (the first post-Ivens album) the techno/trance elements have been seeping into the project and with this release, "Sonic Surgery", the transformation (sic) is complete.

	Album Reviews
		The vocals here (and throughout the album) are of the typical distorted variety you would expect with little variation, but they work reasonably well and don't detract from the music.
		Empyrium are up next with one of the album's best, a truly refined composition that builds on delicate acoustic guitar and piano work to a crescendo that features some inspired grim vocals (in sharp contrast to the quiet, whispered vocals up to that point).
		If the whole album were confined to this style, it might prove a bit much, but he does a great job integrating it with the clean style of the session vocalist.

		Whilst many people think that the sole innovators of EBM in Belgium were Front 242, the reality is that there were a number of other innovative body-beat acts, all of them influential in their own way.
		The Klinik thus became EBM innovators of sorts, adopting a harsher and less accessible tone to the more visible (and more successful commercially) Front 242.
		Marc worked as Klinik prior to the other members joining, but appears to have released nothing prior to 1985.

		One new album is Blasphemous Rumours, sadly not the album composed entirely of looped samples of Depeche Mode that the title had me hoping for.
		The first album is preoccupied with the generation of new structural skins around disparate materials, mainly by electronic processing and tape collage.
		This recent album for "Orchestra Carbon" combines a string ensemble with percussion and Sharp's own double-necked bass guitar, and stretches from extended drum solos to Penderecki-like string harmonies, via chaotic, fractured noisescapes that are difficult to follow but powerfully affecting.

	Moving Hands Music Magazine - Morticians, Private Void
		Morticians are a pretty unknown act in Sweden, at least to the big crowd, but the band has actually existed since 1991.
		The man behind most of the work is Andreas Rimheden and in the beginning the music was mostly inspired by bands such as The Klinik and Suicide Commando.
		Andreas Rimheden has a really great voice that fits this kind of music very well, and on some of the tracks he is accompanied by a female voice which belongs to Marie Hagelqvist.

		Some of the tracks on this album have more of an edge and moody sound than other albums by the band, but they still present plenty of their ultra catchy, uplifting synthpop sound as well.
