  Control Systems
Control systems are intimately related to the concept of automation (q.v.), but the two fundamental types of control systems, feedforward and feedback, have classic ancestry.
The stability of a control system is determined to a large extent by its response to a suddenly applied signal, or transient.
The output of the control system is then compared to the input with respect to amplitude and to phase--i.e., the degree with which the input and output signals are out of step.

BBC - GCSE Bitesize - Design | Systems control | Working with systems
A system is a combination of parts or components, which work together to control a task or activity.
Most systems need to be controlled, and this is usually done by means of a feedback loop which checks the outputs and feeds the results back into the system.
Digital control systems use a programme or series of commands to control the system's functioning.

Fire Control Systems -- Fire Alarms, Fire Prevention, Fire Suppression, Fire Extinguishers
The use of halon 1301 systems in the oil, gas and other process industries in the US has been focused in Alaska where, due to the way the facilities were designed and constructed, the removal of the halon 1301 systems from the process areas is economically impossible.
For new process areas, involving enclosed modules with a potential methane buildup, gas detection systems and controls are being used to shutdown and blowdown processes and to turn on high rate ventilation systems rather than closing up the space and trying to inert it with an extinguishing agent.
Several oil companies are removing their halon 1301 systems from the electronics areas and (1) replacing those systems with high sensitivity smoke detection systems or (2) replacing the halon systems with a preaction sprinkler systems if sprinklers are required by code or (3) replacing the halon 1301 systems with a halocarbon alternative, most often FM-200.

 IEEECSS
An automatic control system, such as the cruise control system in an automobile, implements in the controller a decision process, also called the control law, that dictates the appropriate control actions to be taken for the speed to be maintained within acceptable tolerances.
Control systems are decision-making systems where the decisions are based on predictions of future behavior derived via models of the systems to be controlled, and on sensor-obtained observations of the actual behavior that are fed back.
Control is challenging since it takes strong foundations in engineering and mathematics, uses extensively computer software and hardware and requires the ability to address and solve new problems in a variety of disciplines, ranging from aeronautical to electrical and chemical engineering, to chemistry, biology and economics.

Control system - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The term "control system" may be applied to the essentially manual controls that allow an operator to, for example, close and open a hydraulic press, where the logic requires that it cannot be moved unless safety guards are in place.
In the case of linear feedback systems, a control loop, including sensors, control algorithms and actuators, is arranged in such a fashion as to try to regulate a variable at a setpoint or reference value.
Control systems that include some sensing of the results they are trying to achieve are making use of feedback and so can, to some extent, adapt to varying circumstances.
