  Tsunami Song Controversy Continues
Recently, the NY Hip-Hop station Hot 97 broadcast the racist and crass song, Tsunami Song, which mocked the victims of December's South Asian and African Tsunami.

Vindy.com - Iffy song lyrics spark controversy at practice
Burton was sitting in on one of the practice sessions a week ago when she took notice of the song being used.
The chorus to the song says "A few times I've been around that track so it's not just gonna happen like that 'Cause I ain't no holla back girl, I ain't no holla back girl." Burton is convinced that the around the track reference is not related to track and field, football or cheerleading.
Dzurinda said the cheerleaders have learned most of the steps to the song and should not be forced to waste the hard work associated with learning the song.

Collectorz.com :: View topic - Controversy Over Walt Disney's "Song of the South"
Song of the South of Zip-a-dee-doo-dah Fame may never be released in the U.S. because of the new "Political Correctness" fear that masks itself in censorship.
The film's song, "Zip-a-dee Do-Dah", won the "Best Song" Academy Award for 1946.Although some Blacks have always been uneasy about the minstrel tradition of the Uncle Remus stories, the major objections to the Song of the South video had to do with the live action portions.
I've seen several discussions about Song of the South containing comments to that effect, which state or imply African Americans in the film refer to the whites as "massa." That is completely false.

Pop-Culture-Corn: Music: Livin' In American Skin
Throughout the song, the words "41 shots" are heard, both in the background and the foreground.
Since this controversy started I've been thinking of Springsteen's compelling 1982 song "Highway Patrolman," in which a small-town policeman is caught between trying to do a good job while at the same time trying to protect his renegade younger brother.
The song is not about the Diallo shooting, but references it rather chillingly in a portrayal of a society that has become increasingly violent and paranoid to the point where even good people can make decisions that result in the death of innocent people.

University of California Marching Band ~ Cal Songs ~ Big C
It was written to commemorate the creation of the large cement "C" built on the "rugged Eastern foothills" of the Berkeley campus in 1905, and the song was later entered in the Daily Californian's then annual school song competition.
The controversy surrounding the song has its roots in the "All University Weekend," an annual event which began around 1948 and lasted into the 1960's.
The matter came to a head in February 18, 1969, when Irwin Coster, working on behalf of the UCLA cause, received official word from the Copyright Office of the Library of Congress that "Big C" had never been copyrighted, and thus it was in the Public Domain.

In the music trade they're called "song sharks." A song shark preys on hopeful musicians and bands, playing on their egos and their desires for fame and fortune, ultimately draining the bands' production funds and leaving them with little more than credit card debt.
