The Convair Model 37 was a large passenger aircraft planned, but never built, by Convair.
It was to be a civilian airliner version of the Convair XC-99 transport plane, and thus eventually derived from the giant B-36 bomber.
The Model 37 was to be of similar proportions to the XC-99; 182 ft 6" in length, 230 ft wingspan, and a high-capacity, double-deck fuselage.

Convair addressed this problem, beginning with the B-36D model, by adding four auxiliary jet engines in pods under the outer wings to provide short-term boosts in power.
RB-36s were distinguishable by the bright aluminum of the camera compartment (contrasting with the dull magnesium of the rest of the fuselage), and by a series of radar domes under the aft fuselage.
An operational nuclear reactor was fitted in the aft bomb-bay of the aircraft, a four ton lead shield inserted in front of the bomb bay, and the crew was encased in a lead and rubber capsule with a tiny, 1 foot (30 cm)–thick leaded glass windshield.

The Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Corporation, universally known as Convair, was the result of a 1943 merger between Consolidated Aircraft and Vultee Aircraft, resulting in a leading aircraft manufacturer of the United States.
In March 1953, Convair was acquired by General Dynamics, becoming the Convair Division of the merged company.
In 1994 this aerostructures unit was sold to McDonnell Douglas, the Fort Worth facility went to Lockheed, and in 1996 General Dynamics shut down the Convair Division.

Modelers wishing to operate gas-powered models in areas where prepared fuels are hard to obtain should be interested to know that one fuel recommended by the manufacturer is made of one part castor oil with three parts alcohol.
This jewel of a model is from 1957.

On December 10, Consolidated redesignated the Model 35 the Model 36 so that it would not be confused with the Northrop flying wing, which was then known as the B-35.
In the spring of 1943, China appeared near collapse in its war against invading Japanese forces, and the USAAF was faced with the unpleasant prospect of the loss of its bases in China from which it planned to launch B-29 raids against Japan.
It was returned to Convair in October of 1950 to be fitted for reconnaissance, and was redesignated RB-36E.

While eight more YF-102s (Model 8-82, serials 53-1779/1786) were being built to the same standards as the first two aircraft, Convair embarked on a major investigation and redesign program in an attempt to save the F-102.
The wingspan was increased from 37 feet to 38 feet 1 1/2 inches, the wing area increased from 661 square feet to 695 square feet, and the gross weight increased from 26,404 pounds to 28,150 pounds.
