Converge - Biography - AOL Music
Incredibly prolific punk-metal road dogs Converge were formed in the winter of 1990-1991, and after several singles, compilation appearances, and the requisite growing pains, they released their first full-length, Halo in a Haystack, in 1994.
Brodsky left the band that same year to be replaced by bassist Nate Newton; Bellorado exited in 1999 and, soon enough, the band had welcomed drummer Ben Koller into the fray.
Converge was by now regarded as one of the most original and innovative bands to emerge from the punk underground.

Kurt Ballou (Converge) interview // Interviews // Features // Lambgoat
Sometimes, it's a band that I don't know as people but I really like the music and I think I can do a good job in recording them and sometimes I might not know the people or care about the music, but if their heart is in the right place then I'll do it.
Converge is of course my number one form of advertising for my studio, I don't advertise it any other way and as someone who is in a somewhat-known hardcore band, most of the bands I record are hardcore bands.
A band can do the same things, with the same producer, in the same studio, with the same equipment but if they can't play their instruments properly or don't have good songs then it's not going to make a good album.

Converge is not for the faint of heart.
They are purely a band you either despise or revere, their music is challenging in the fact that it’s not an inactive listening experience.

With Forever, Converge pushed their artistic limits to new levels of anguish, while musically evolving a noisier, more atmospheric and emotionally rending brand of metallic hardcore that was spurned on by complex playing, increasingly vicious vocals and poetically shattered lyrics.
Having cut their teeth playing with anyone of importance during metallic hardcore’s mid-’90s revival, Converge’s live show is fraught with flailing equipment and bodies, with kids piled five-deep in a desperate attempt to close on the mic, all the while driven by Bannon and Converge’s demonic exorcisms and emotional venting.
With Converge’s role as metallic hardcore innovators/trendsetters/flag-bearers firmly cemented with over a decade’s worth of aural destruction, it would have been easy for Converge to succumb to the hyperbole like many before them and become unapproachable elitists contemptuous of the scene they helped drive and that initially formed them, but they haven’t.
