Drained by the Saco River, North Conway is a village of Conway.
Chartered in 1765 by Colonial Governor Benning Wentworth, the town is named for Henry Seymour Conway, ambitious son of a prominent English family, who was elected to the House of Commons at age twenty, fought at Culloden, and became Secretary of State.
The picturesque small town is nestled directly in the heart of the White Mountains, and has long been popular with tourists and artists, particularly after the entrance of the railroad in 1871.

Located on the eastern foothills of the Berkshires, rain that falls in Conway drains to two watersheds: the southeastern portion of the town drains to the Mill River, while the rest of the town drains to the South River in the Deerfield River drainage.
The portion of Conway that drains to the Mill River watershed is mostly forested and forms one of the largest blocks of unfragmented forest in Massachusetts.
Conway residents have been extremely active in the Mill River Project, participating in stream teams and taking advantage of watershed activities (field walks, presentations, writing grants).

Kingston Lake and Crabtree Canal are tributary creeks located near the City of Conway, SC that drain into the Waccamaw River.
To determine whether stormwater runoff is a significant source of pathogenic bacteria and oxygen-demanding substances in the Kingston Lake Subwatershed, pollutant concentrations and water flows were measured on alternating weeks and during five storm events throughout a two-year period (1999-2001).
Estimates of fecal coliform production rates based on populations of wildlife, pets, and livestock and emissions from septic tanks and sewage treatment plants indicated that native waterfowl are the largest producers of fecal coliform in the watershed.
