Cookstown (An Chorr Chríochach in Irish) is a small to medium town in County Tyrone in Northern Ireland.
Cookstown's high street is the longest in Ireland (at 1 and 3/4 mile long), and also the quickest way for large haulage trucks to get to wherever it is they seem to be going in no particular hurry whilst blocking traffic and occaisionally running over local pets.
Cookstown's long and noted history of intellectual debate and educational overachievers is bolstered by the nightly displays of local youths parking their parent's cars on its famous high street to discuss the pressing philosophical questions of the day.

The land on which the early town of Cookstown was built was part of the ancient territory of Mallenagh, belonging to the O'Mellans, an "Erenagh" family.During the Plantation of Ulster, all Erenagh land was held to be church land, and as such was handed over to the Protestant bishops of the new church.
Cookstown was abandoned (after some legislative troubles back in England) and returned for a time to the native Irish.
By the 1740s the basic layout of Cookstown had taken shape and was indeed a 135 foot wide street which ran unbroken for a mile and a quarter, with avenues leading into it.

An investigation into the source of this pollution was traced back to the premises of Cookstown Aggregates Ltd., where an overflow pipe from a pond on the site was found to be discharging heavily discoloured and sand contaminated effluent to a nearby stream.
A further investigation on 30 October 2002 revealed another serious pollution incident from the premises of Cookstown Aggregates Ltd. Again, heavily discoloured and sand-contaminated effluent was escaping from the site and, as before, a considerable length of river and a downstream fish farm was badly affected.
The court was told that when Mr Black, the owner of Cookstown Aggregates Ltd, was spoken to on this occasion by the investigating officers, he was uncooperative and refused to take any action to stop the pollution.

Michael Dobson, of Mulnagore Lane, Sandholes, was killed when the Peugeot 309 he was travelling in was in collision with a transit van on the A4 at the Killymoyle Road junction on the Ballygawley Road on September 3.
Two men aged 20 and 61 years were arrested in Cookstown and Police say they are being questioned about a range of driving offences.
Anyone who was travelling along the Carland Road or the Cookstown Road at around 5.45pm on Monday 10th October and witnessed the collision or either vehicle - a Scania lorry or a Silver Astra - travelling along the road is asked to contact Police in Dungannon on 028 877 52525.
