Cookstown (An Chorr Chríochach in Irish) is a town in County Tyrone in Northern Ireland, with a population of 10,646 people (in the 2001 Census).
Cookstown's main street is the longest,widest and deepest in Ireland.
Cookstown is classified by the NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) as a Medium Town (ie with a population of between 10,000 and 18,000 people).

The county consists chiefly of river valleys surrounded by elevated tablelands rising occasionally into mountains, while on the borders of the sea-coast the surface is generally level.
The west of this county consists of Dairadian mica-schist, with some quartzite, and is a continuation of the northern region of Tyrone.
The Northern Counties (Midland) main line reaches it by way of Coleraine and the north coast of the county, and the same railway serves the ~stern part of the county, with branches from Antrim to Magherafelt, and Magherafelt to Cookstown (Co. Tyrone), to Draperstown and to Colei-aine, and from Limavady to Dungiven.

A Tyrone lorry-driver John Rush of Stewartstown, was awarded £1,500 damages against the RUC for an assault which took place in 1992.
John Torney (40), an RUC constable, was given a life sentence at Belfast Crown Court for the murder of his wife and two children at their home in Cookstown, County Tyrone with his RUC Ruger revolver on September 20, 1994 in order to collect £80,000 insurance.
The British administration in the Six Occupied Counties were forced to pay out £1.4 million compensation in 1995 for damage caused by the British army and the RUC during searches of premises.

Then on Sep.29, 1863, Thomas Dallas, a 35-year-old widowed labourer of Drumard, parish of Tamlaght, was married in the Cookstown Registry Office to Anne Rhoddy, a 21-year-old servant of Drumard whose father, Francis Rhoddy, was a labourer.
Fred Dallas was born in Cookstown in 1912 and emigrated to Canada in 1928.

Hamilton's official appointment was made in the late summer of 1790, and on April 5, 1791, the Primate handed over the management of the institution to a board of Governors and Guardians, made up chiefly of members of the Chapter of Armagh Cathedral.

The RUC say that it was discovered this afternoon by a member of the public at the Boleran club at Coolnasillagh Road.

RUC Chief Constable Sir Ronnie Flanagan has announced the closure of a number of army installations in Northern Ireland as the peace process regains lost momentum.
Sir Ronnie announced that one army base in Londonderry and another in Cookstown, County Tyrone are to be closed, along with observation posts in north and west Belfast and in south Armagh.
He said the scaling down of the army presence was as a result of a security assessment which indicated the threat of paramilitary violence had been reduced.
