Cookstown District Council is a district council covering an area largely in County Tyrone and partly in County Londonderry.
Small towns in the Council area include Pomeroy, Moneymore, Coagh and Stewartstown and in the east the area is bounded by Lough Neagh.
In 2004-05 the Council Chairman is Councillor Trevor Wilson (UUP) and the Vice Chairman is Councillor Patrick Pearse McAleer (Sinn Féin).

The District Policing Partnership is only one of many oragnisations with a civic duty to the residents of the district to ensure our streets and neighbouhoods are safe for everyone to enjoy.
Cookstown District Council is one of 26 local authorities in Northern Ireland, and covers an area of 235 sq miles with an approximate population of over 32,500.
 The boundary of the district council is the same as that of the District Policing Partnership and the District Command Unit.

Cookstown District Policing Partnership (DPP) is a partnership between Cookstown District Council and representatives of the local community, which was established on 4 March 2003 under the auspices of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000.
The area covered by the DPP is the same as that covered by Cookstown District Council and Cookstown District Command Unit of the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
 Cookstown town with a population of approximately 12,000 is the principal administrative and commercial centre for the district and serves a further 4,500 people who reside in the villages of Coagh, Pomeroy, Stewartstown and Moneymore.

Councillor Barr proposed seconded by Councillor McBride that Council accept the proposals for Moorlough as outlined in the CTO Report and this was agreed.
Councillor Barr asked that particular attention be paid to the outcome of the Court cases in view of the increased volume of offences and made reference to a similar case in another Council District that had been treated as frivolous by the Magistrate.

The most interesting aspect of the 2005 election in Cookstown was that it did not take place in one of the three electoral areas.
**Only two of the three electoral areas in Cookstown voted in the 2005 local government elections; in Ballinderry the number of candidates (2 SF, 2 SDLP, 1 DUP and 1 UUP) was equal to the number of seats (six), so no vote was held.
However the sole "Independent" candidate had previously sat as an "Independent Unionist" councillor and describes himself as "Independent Unionist" on the Cookstown Council web-site.
