Topic: Cooling water

Watercooling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Contrary to air cooling, it uses water as the heat transmitter and is commonly used for cooling motors in automobiles.
A typical watercooling setup consists of an object to be cooled, a pump which circulates the water and a radiator such as a large heatsink (possibly with a fan).
Watercooling systems in which water is cooled directly by the evaporator coil of a phase change system generally provide superior cooling, but this uses much more electricity and antifreeze must be added due to the low temperature.

District Cooling in Stockholm Using Sea Water   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
Cooling is produced by cold sea water being drawn in through the inlet to the heat pump and then passing six plate heat exchangers that cool the water pumped out into the district cooling network.
The temperature of the cooling water leaving the plant is 6°C or lower and the return temperature from the distribution grid is 16°C at high load and a few degrees lower at low load.
The favorable conditions for sea water cooling is based on the fact that Stockholm lies on the shores of the Baltic Sea and at the mouth of Lake Malaren, the largest lake in Sweden.

 Water Treatment - Cooling Towers
Water used in cooling towers contains dissolved impurities because water is capable of dissolving a wide variety of solids and gases in infinite combinations and amounts.
Water, although pure enough to drink, is usually not good enough for use in a cooling tower until it has been treated with scale and corrosion inhibitors.
As it passes through the water in a cooling tower, the air is effectively "scrubbed," and the impurities are transferred to the water.

 NEC Global - Press Release
By development of a piezoelectric pump with higher water pressure and slimmer size (thickness 5mm), the thickness of the aluminum radiation plate that contains the water circulation channel is reduced to within 3 mm.
Water pressure of the electromagnetic centrifugal pump is relatively weak.
Installation of a large tank is necessary as cooling liquid seeps through the resin parts of the tank, pump and the connection tubes resulting in liquid reduction over time.

 Cooling Water Treatment
Evaporative cooling systems are used in comfort air conditioning and in Industrial applications to remove heat from the circulating water.
This condition is exacerbated by the action of the cooling tower where the system functions as a giant scrubber removing particulates  from the air.
The water droplets can be passed into the heating and cooling ducts and end up where people live and work.

Abstract: A highly instrumentated cooling tower pilot plant was designed and constructed at the Dow Chemical Texas Division plant, Freeport, Texas, for the purpose of developing operating guidelines for fuse of various commercially available non-chromate cooling water treatment programs.
Abstract: Cooling tower operators are currently confronted with a variety of contemporary chemical treatment and chemical/physical control processes as vendors of chemicals and equipment attempt to fill the vacuum created by the regulatory restriction of chromate based programs from our industrial arsenal.
A protocol consisting of laboratory and pilot cooling tower techniques along with field trial were used to evaluate the effectiveness of several established water polymers for the prevention of scale in stressed conditions.

The Art Of Senfu (water cooling an Athlon, and why you should care)
Water cooling may make your computer look thoroughly extraordinary - even with a PC built in a conventional case, you still need to put the reservoir and radiator somewhere, and they're likely to attract comment - but, done properly, it's a reliable, inexpensive way to get substantially more speed from a CPU.
Running a water tube into your computer seems to be, at first glance, the sort of thing that people only do because the voices in their head command it.
It's not part of the water cooling kit, but it goes quite well with it, or with any other off-the-wall computer project for which you'd like to have easy access to every part of the machine, and for which you don't mind sacrificing rather a lot of mechanical stability.

Cooling Tower Water Quality   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
This is because cooling towers are extremely effective air washers and the technological advances which are intended to improve their thermal performance also serve to increase their air washing efficiency.
This constant washing of the incoming air plus the base characteristics of the make-up water supply are the parameters which establish the ultimate quality of the continuously recirculated water stream complicated by the fact that the process of evaporation has the ability to cause incoming contaminant levels to concentrate tremendously.
Water conditions falling outside these limits would warrant an investigation of the combined effect of all the constituents on each component material.

Sourcebook: Solar Hot Water, Heating and Cooling Systems
The active water systems that can be used to heat domestic hot water are the same as the ones that provide space heat.
A passive solar water heating system uses natural convection or household water pressure to circulate water through a solar collector to a storage tank or to the point of use.
Colder water from the bottom of the storage tank will be drawn into the lower entry of the solar collector to replace the heated water that was thermosyphoned upward.

Deep Water Source Cooling: An Untapped Resource   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
Deep water source cooling (DWSC) refers to the renewable use of a large body of naturally cold water as a heat sink for process and comfort space cooling.
Water at a constant 40 - 50° F or less is withdrawn from deep areas within lakes, oceans, aquifers and rivers and is pumped through the primary side of a heat exchanger.
The basic concept behind DWSC is to use naturally occurring cold water to produce chilled water to be used for building comfort cooling as an alternative to using energy intensive air conditioning equipment.

Overclocker Cafe - Thermaltake Rocket Fanless Water Cooling Kit Review
Water cooling systems are a fantastic cooling solution but all too often H2O kits get lumped into one big category.
Super cooling speaks for itself, water pumps capable of servicing a small pond, large radiators and fans that move serious air with minimal thought or allowance for sound levels or sound suppression.
These systems don't provide the brute force cooling power of the first category we described but rest their laurels on the efficiency of water coupled with low speed fans at low decibel levels to produce a near silent cooling option.

 Water-cooling.com | Reviews | Demonic XTC Waterblock
Six "PentaHydro-Channels" have been milled into it to create alot of turbulence within the water so as to pick up as much heat as possible from the copper, this also explains the name of the block, as XTC stands for eXtreme Turbulence Cooling.
Around the Channels are two open spaces to allow the water to escape the block via the two outlet barbs, and around this there is a small groove cut into the block to seat a Synthetic O-Ring to make it watertight.
The Aim is too see which block keeps the CPU closest to the temperature of the water before entering the block, and to see by how much the water has risen in temperature afterwards under different load conditions.
