Cooley High is a 1975 feature film produced and released by American International Pictures and written by Eric Monte (creator of Good Times).
Cooley began his career in real estate in 1986 as the vice president of development and acquisitions for High Associates, Ltd. and in 1989, became vice president of commercial asset management.
Cooley was promoted to executive assistant to the chairman and president of High Industries, Inc. He continued to serve on the Advisory Board of High Associates and earned his Certified Property Manager designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management in 1992.

I recorded it on VHS back when I was in high school on the TBS channel in 1995 (in edited form; a scene was left out, and the swearing was replaced by silence gaps), but recorded it two years later on its own tape from the Encore channel in 1997 (the theatrical release).

In adapting the much-loved 1975 movie Cooley High for the stage at the Arts Bank, Freedom Repertory Theatre director Walter Dallas has turned it into a musical, moving the soundtrack of '60s Motown hits from the background to the foreground (or at least to the middle ground).
Most of the other numbers are Motown standards, sung by a vocal quintet called A Perfect Blend, who drift in and out of the action in their evening gowns, dinner jackets and sequined bow ties.
Otherwise, Cooley High stays as close in form as it can to a movie.

For generations of African Americans, Cooley High, the 1975 coming-of-age drama about high school friends living in impoverished Chicago in the '60s, was one of the few films that reflected their realities.
So it was particularly unsettling to read that Eric Monte, who wrote Cooley High and cocreated the '70s sitcom Good Times, was living in a homeless shelter near East L.A., recovering from a series of strokes and crack addiction.
Cooley High was based on Monte's life in Chicago's notorious Cabrini Green projects.

Coach Cooley is now eligible for the Tennessee Titans Coach-of-the-Year award to be announced January 2, 2005 when the Titans host the Detroit Lions.  Adams will make an additional $2,000 grant to that winner.
