In the county the population is spread out with 22.80% under the age of 18, 14.00% from 18 to 24, 27.40% from 25 to 44, 20.60% from 45 to 64, and 15.20% who are 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county is $35,313, and the median income for a family is $41,526.

 Reavis Cooper County, Missouri
Henry J. Reavis was born in 1839, his parents having been among the early residents of that part of Cooper County and continued to make his home on the farm on which he was born until 1872 when he moved to the Meyer place near the store at Clarks Fork.
She was born in Madison County, Kentucky in 1849 and came with her parents to Missouri locating first in Howard County and in 1877 coming to Cooper County where at Bunceton on November 15, 1866 she was married to Henry J. Reavis.
Reavis is one of the best known huntsmen in cooper county and his home is adorned with numerous trophies of the chase, inccluding a half dozen handsomely mounted deer antlers.

The historians record that this was a campaign of unusual enthusiasm and interest, throughout the county, state and nation, and Cooper County records a clean sweep for the Whigs, they electing their full ticket in the County, as well as State Senator in the District, Reuben A. Ewing, Whig, defeating David Jones, Democrat.
In 1835, Paul Whitley, a Cooper County Benefactor, died near where is now the town of Prairie Home, and left his estate in trust to Cooper County, the income from which, after the death of his wife, was to be devoted to the better education of the future boys and girls of that county.
Judge Thomas A. Harris, now deceased, member of the Cooper County court for several terms near the turn of the century, was present in person at this sale and frequently mentioned the incident, during his lifetime, to his daughter, Mrs.

The first white settlers in Cooper County were the families of Stephen Cole and the widow Hannah Cole, seventeen persons in all.
New counties were formed; a system of common schools was established; turnpike road systems were chartered; and a deaf and dumb asylum was proposed.
Missouri officials, acting in the line of duty, were forever being jailed for trespass by zealous Iowa "patriots." In 1839, a Missouri farmer cut three bee trees in the disputed area, and this triggered a "little war with Iowa," sometimes called the Honey War.

At the September term in 1820 the commissioners reported they reserved places for the courthouse and jail on the 50 acres, and the remainder of the property would be surveyed into lots, streets and alleys.
The county used the courthouse for only 15 years before replacing it, certainly not a typical lifespan for such a costly building.
In May 1838 the County Court ordered a portion of the public square to be laid off into lots and sold to raise funds in order to build a larger courthouse (see Figure 1).
