  Coosan
Coosan Castle was a tower-house of the O'Breens.
As Hare Island and Iseal Chiarain adjoin St.Mary's parish, the saint was certainly acquainted with the lands of Coosan.
The land of Coosan are of a good agricultural quality and down the years must have acted as a market garden for Athlone, supplying vegetqables and grain to the corn mills of the town.

The Coosan (also Coos or Kusan) language family consists of two languages spoken along the southern Oregon coast.
The origin of the name Coos is uncertain: one idea is that it is derived from a Hanis stem gus- meaning 'south' as in gusimídži·c 'southward'; another idea is that it is derived from a southwestern Oregon Athabaskan word ku·s meaning 'bay'.
In 1916 Edward Sapir suggested that the Coosan languages are part of a larger Oregon Penutian genetic grouping.

Coos Language and the Coos Indian Tribe (Coosan, Kusan, Hanis, Miluk, Lower Coquille)
Unfortunately the last native Coosan speaker died in 1972, but the language appears to have been related to Siuslaw and Alsea, and some linguists consider all these languages part of a broader Penutian language family.
Miluk Coosan is sometimes referred to as "Lower Coquille" by anthropologists, because the traditional homeland of the Miluk includes the lower part of the Coquille River.
The term "lower" does not have anything to do with the language, which is completely unrelated to the Athabascan language of the Upper Coquille.
