Cop Rock actually began when it was suggested that Bochco turn his groundbreaking Hill Street Blues into a Broadway musical.
Cop Rock, which was created by Bochco and William Finklestein, was a gritty police drama in the "Hill Street" tradition, this time set in the toughest neighborhoods of Los Angeles.
Cop Rock was history, with the final episode airing just before Christmas 1990.

Cop Rock was ahead of its time, a very nicely done musical with a heavy dose of social awareness.
I hope I'm getting through to everyone regarding Cop Rock having Jumped The Shark from day one...it was a dumb show, born of a dumb idea by undoubtedly dumb T.V. executives who probably right now are living in a refrigerator box underneath a freeway overpass, all because of that one dumb decision.
Cop Rock was a show that sounded good on paper but when they made the show, it was a disaster.

Cops, robbers, judges, juries, and junkies bursting into musical numbers, replete with Debbie Allen-style choreography and music by Oscar and Grammy award winner Randy Newman and Emmy winner Mike Post.

I know it was a fevered dream, but I could swear that I fell asleep to Pink Lady and Jeff and woke in the middle of the night to Cop Rock.
Funniest thing I've ever seen on cold meds: the sargent at the morning briefing singing "Let's be careful out there" to the stone-faced cops (including spinning his podium around to turn it into an organ).

A buddy cop movie that trots out every cliché known to the buddy cop genre, and doing it with such a tongue-in-cheek approach doesn’t seem to help because Shelton’s script lacks the edge to do it justice.
“School of Rock” works wonderfully because Black’s Dewey Finn is not just a goofy parody, but a man with a genuine affection for rock that can’t be too far removed from Black himself (who is one-half of the cult duo Tenacious D).
Dewey is perhaps the great unlikely hero of the movie year; irresponsible, lazy, and an outright slob, perhaps, but a real inspiration for a group of grade-schoolers as he teaches something from the heart.
