Argentina - National Parks and Reserves - Hotel Near
The National Park Headquarters at Santa Fe 680 in Buenos Aires (Mon-Fri 10am-5pm; tel 011/4311-0303) has an information office on the lower ground floor, with introductory leaflets on the nation's parks, though some are occasionally out of stock.
The national parks of Argentina are one of the country's principal lures, encompassing the gamut of ecosystems and scenery that exist here, from arid dry chaco thornscrub to subtropical jungle, from high Andean peaks to Atlantic coastline.
The parks vary in size from the minuscule botanical reserve of Colonia Benítez in Chaco Province, less than a tenth of a square kilometre in size, to the grand and savage Parque Nacional Los Glaciares in Santa Cruz, which covers some six thousand square kilometres.

Jaguar (Panthera onca) distribution in Argentina.
There is also a National Parks Project that intends to establish a biological corridor joining the National Park Baritu, in the North of Salta, and the Tariquia Reserve in Bolivia.
Although there is not much more information, a census carried by staff of the Delegacion Regional Noroeste de Parques Nacionales (Northwest Regional Delegation of National Parks) could not confirm any signs of its presence in this huge marshy area, instead they found a relictual group of Ocelotes (Leopardus pardalis) locally known as Yaguarete-í.
Its only chance of survival in this area is the creation of a biological corridor linking the national parks Baritu and Calilegua, that has gained great impetus thanks to the realization of the Yungas Biosphere Reserve.

ARGENTINA: Auctioned Nature Reserve - Unwelcome New Challenge for Environmentalists
For example, in the Copo National Park in the northern province of Santiago del Estero (which borders Salta), the word 'desafectación' is already beginning to be mentioned for a specific area where people are living, where eviction would otherwise be very costly," she said.
In a conversation with IPS, the president of the National Park Administration, Enrique Espina, admitted that the decision to 'desafectar' the reserve "is not wonderful news," even if the Salta provincial government's argument that the forest there was already severely degraded is accepted, along with its offer to protect another area as compensation.
Espina, however, argued that the centre-left government of President Néstor Kirchner cannot intervene "out of respect for the provincial government's jurisdiction," nor does it have the "legal authority to overrule the 'desafectación'," said Espina, who is responsible for the country's parks, reserves and national natural monuments.

Cheesemans' Ecology Safaris: South America - Argentina/Brazil 2005
At Iguazu National Park the endangered Black-fronted Piping-Guan has been seen on past trips, so there is good chance of seeing this great rarity, even as we walk along some of the long stretches of boardwalk bordering the many arms of Iguazu Falls on the Argentine side.
Together with his wife who is also a biologist and in charge of all the national parks in Northern Argentina, they work constantly to protect the amazingly diverse habitats that we will visit between Salta and Iguazu.
We spend a full day exploring this national park, allowing us time to look for the endangered Red-Faced Guan which is suffering badly from habitat loss in Bolivia, and the scarce Solitary Eagle.

 Argentina - New Protected Areas
The national park designation would include the areas located to the extreme ends of the proposed reserve, closest to the most important breeding grounds.
While the proposed national park claims to have little mining potential and only registers a few claims and little prospecting activity — rights which will shortly expire — the buffer and multiple use zones do host significant mining claims.
Of the total 175.000 ha representing the proposed PA, only approximately 30.000 ha designated as National Park would be purchased by APN.
