CORAS was a European RandD project partly funded by the 5th Framework program on Information Society Technologies (IST) by the European Commission.
The model-based approach of CORAS improves the quality and effectiveness of the risk assessment process by facilitating precision, communication and interaction between stakeholders and reduces maintenance costs by increasing the possibilities for reuse.
CORAS provides a uniform, streamlined approach for each stage in a risk assessment project, from context identification, through risk assessment, analysis and treatment to presentation of results.

The overall objective for the CORAS project is to develop a practical framework for model-based security risk assessment by exploiting the synthesis of risk analysis methods with semiformal specification methods supported by an adaptable tool-integration platform.
The choice of risk analysis method upon which the abstract pattern is instantiated depends on the viewpoint in which the part to be analysed appears and the detail incorporated in the context of the analysis depends on the phase in the development lifecycle.
The specific instances of the CORAS risk management process that are used throughout the system lifecycle depend on the target (sub)system and the context of the analysis.

The College of Education is providing $27,000 to CORAS for a year to pay a portion of the CORAS director's salary and to fund faculty-student research projects in the schools.
CORAS was created during President Lyndon Johnson's administration to promote equity in funding for education, analyze policy issues, promote educational research and develop educational leadership in the 29-county area of Southeast Ohio designated as part of Appalachia by the federal government, CORAS Director Max Evans said.
