In France the poodle is known as a caniche and in Spain as a perro de lana (literally “wool dog”).
The poodle is often thought of as a typically French breed (it is frequently referred to as the “French Poodle”).
Though the poodle is usually a healthy, long-lived canine (it’s not unheard of to see a 15-year-old toy or miniature poodle or a 12-year-old standard poodle), owners should be aware of the health problems that this breed is predisposed to.

Corded Poodle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Corded Poodle is a Poodle whose hair has been allowed to grow in the corded manner: it is not a distinct breed.
Some Poodles have coats which will more or less naturally cord, others must be coaxed into it, but virtually all Poodles are capable of having corded hair once their adult hair has been established.
Corded coats are more difficult to take care of, and corded dogs fell out of fashion, in favor of those with wooly coats.

Poodles are one of the oldest known breed to man. It's true origins is really impossible to pinpoint a certain time or place.
Where the Poodle got his name; Pudel (Canis Familiaris Aquatius), or "water dog" in Germany; the Caniche (chien canard), or "duck dog" in France; in England, the Poodle, "splash in water"; when they became popular in Holland and Belgium they were know as "Poedels".
At early shows, Poodles were frequently corded, and a battle ensued as to whether the Corded Poodle and the Curly coated were separate breeds of the same family.

Poodles are commonly acknowledged to be the most wisely intelligent of all members of the canine race.
Paris was formerly the home of most of the learned Poodles, and one remembers the instance of the Poodle of the Pont Neuf, who had the habit of dirtying the boots of the passers-by in order that his master—shoefl stationed halfway across the bridge—might enjoy the profit of cleaning them.
Most Poodles are kept in the house or in enclosed kennels, well protected from draught and moisture, and there is no difficulty in so keeping them, as they are naturally obedient and easily taught to be clean in the house and to be regular in their habits.

 History of Poodles
The poodle was developed as a water retriever, and the distinctive clipping of its heavy coat was initiated to increase the animal's efficiency in the water.
The poodle is clipped in a variety of styles (e.g., the puppy trim, the continental clip, and the English-saddle clip), a practice now carried out largely for show or aesthetic purposes but originally for utilitarian value.
The poodle was widely used in France as a waterfowl retriever, but its heavy coat required clipping so as not to hinder the dog's progress through water.

The Poodle was very popular indeed in the late nineteenth century, with many fanciers owning this breed exclusively, and while most dogs around this time had an early version of our present-day show clip, there was a brief fashion for the corded coat.
