Cordia was introduced into Vanuatu in the early 1970s through a New Zealand funded plantation project, under a Local Supply Plantation (LSP) program, testing Cordia as a potential plantation species for Vanuatu.
Due to no available funds to manage the LSPs and Erromango IFP after the project phased out, the management of Cordia plantations has dropped and have resulted in the unmanaged state in which appropriate silvicultural regimes were not conducted, leading it to become a potential weedy plant.
This amount of wood have a significant value, and is owned by landowners and communities, who could benefit directly from the sale of timber as well as the creation of employment opportunities that may arise as a result of harvesting this resource when a market is identified regionally and Internationally.
