Corinne Wood may be the first female to rule Illinois with the support of her boss, Gov. George Ryan, who is pushing her candidacy.
Wood said on Friday that her announcement would come in the near future and that she was heavily considering running for governor.
When Wood ran alongside Ryan in 1998, she became the first woman to be elected lieutenant governor and the highest ranking female official to serve in Illinois.

Corinne Wood's entire campaign was focused on "choice." She figured since she was running against one stringently pro-life candidate (O'Malley) and one "allegedly" pro-life candidate (Jim Ryan) she was going to court the woman vote and focus on CHOICE.
Wood's over-emphasis at being the only "pro-abortion" candidate in the Republican primaries turned out to be a major turn off, notably to Republican women in the state.
