During the 1970’s, Alton Towers Ltd started to develop Alton Towers into the place and areas we know today with the exception of Forbidden valley and Gloomy wood.
In the mid 1970s, Alton Towers attractions included motorcycle racing, a miniature railway, an adventure playground and a sea lion pool.

Contrary to some beliefs, the Black Hole was never a Jet Star 3, although it's revamp to 2 car trains co-incided with the arrival at Alton Towers of the "Beast" rollercoaster, which is a Jet Star 3!
The corkscrew's was removed, as has the system on Ripsaw, although in 2001 the corkscrew again featured on-ride photos.
In 1999 this area was given a much needed revamp to become "Ug-Land", with a prehistoric feel to the rides, the rides remaining in this area (the Corkscrew, Wave Swinger, and Breakdance) were re-done with dinosaur themeing, and several shows and games were installed.

 Coaster Kingdom > Traumatizer
A lot of Vekoma rides (such as Alton Towers' Corkscrew, Parc Asterix`s Gouderix, and the earlier SLCs), have been heavily criticised over the years for being far too rough.
Vekoma's design conveniently leaves a large space in the middle of the ride, allowing parks the chance to build Tussaud's-style paths and spectator areas under most of the ride.
Vekoma have put a lot of effort into make their rides smoother and have succeeded.

Coaster Kingdom - Air, Alton Towers
Alton Towers debuted it's frightening new roller coaster, Nemesis, themed after a horrible post-apocalypse monster rising from the core of the earth to terrorize people.
Complementing Nemesis in Forbidden Valley, is such a bizarre location for a ride of this type and a theme to go with it that you begin to wonder if anyone at Tussaud's actually visits Alton.
Anyway, you are probably fed up of me moaning and so I will finally pray that the theming of Corkscrew and RITA-Queen of speed don't clash in the same way that the theming of Nemesis and Air do.

 Coaster Force
Coaster Force visited Alton Towers to experience Rita, another great day was had by some, whilst others moaned about the waiting around between rides, which is why I didn't hang around with the group for this one, although we did bump into Coaster Force at the end of the day!
Rita is an Intamin launched coaster that will accelerate you to 62mph in around 3 seconds before diving around Ugland through trees and close to Corkscrew.
Coaster Force's Nadia is in the paper in a rather amusing little story!
