The Corkscrew Regional Ecosystem Watershed, or CREW, project comprises some 60,000 acres — nearly 100 square miles — with the 11,000-acre Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary at its heart.
CREW Chairman Ed Carlson, who manages Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, said CREW survived getting cut by ARC because the project meets many of the state's goals for preservation — from preserving wildlife habitat to providing natural flood control.
