Funke is a wonderful writer, I actually cried at the end of this story, and I rarely do that.
The book is exciting and menacing, and you just don't know whether or not it will all come out right in the end--and in fact the story doesn't really end at the end--it will be hard to wait until the third book in the series is available.
Highly recommended, and an added bonus is that Funke quotes from other books at the beginning of each chapter.
