Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging(Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
The Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging (NSB, "National Socialist Movement") was a national socialist political party in the Netherlands during the 1930s and during the German occupation in World War II, when it was the only allowed political party.
The party was established in 1931 by Anton Mussert and CornelisvanGeelkerken, based on the ideas of Italian fascism and German national-socialism.
In 1936, lead by Rost van Tonningen, the party became openly anti-semitic, which lead to decreased support for the party.
The course Mussert and VanGeelkerken had planned was not radical enough for some, however, and within the same year several radical elements within the movement came forward.
In exchange for a visit with Hitler Musserts agreed with the foundation of the Dutch SS under the leadership of Feldmeijer and withdrew his objections to the incorporation of Dutchmen in the Standarte 'Westland', an infantry regiment of the SS Division 'Wiking'.
Mussert somehow managed to gain the favour of the German occupiers at the expense of Rost van Tonningen and was convinced that Hitler would listen to him and that the visit would result in the reversal of the plans.
E.G. Van Teylingen (1903-80) took the floor and declared: "His standpoint testifies to such an ecclesiastical absolutism that it is hard to see how it can be harmonized with the foundation of the Association for Calvinistic Philosophy and with the fundamental idea of sphere sovereignty." [NOTE vanteylingen33]
The "absolutism" of which Van Teylingen spoke had to do with conclusion (attributed to Holwerda) that when Schilder and company were cast out of the church, their opponents were actually casting them out of the kingdom of God.
[NOTE vanderleeuw33] However, Van der Leeuw is not generally considered one of the reformationals, partly because of his church affiliation: he was a minister in the "Hervormd" tradition (roughly speaking, the Dutch state church, as described on the Institutions and Organizations web page connected with this series).
NOTE: Cornelis Veenhof (1902-83) experienced the early days of the reformational movement as a student.
It could happen that a great mass of Free University students would become inflamed and would demonstrate in favor of the negativism that was really the beginning of the [J.G.] Geelkerken [1879-1960] conflict.
At a congress held in those days under the auspices of a student movement that called itself Reformed, the life work of [Abraham] Kuyper [1837-1920] was severely criticized and Hartogian idealism was promoted.
