In the spacious converted gymnasium that serves as home to the Catholic University of America's School of Architecture and Planning, students in Ann Cederna's graduate drafting course are hard at work, designing grange halls and marketplaces for an imaginary agricultural town.
Most architectural firms already use drafting software, and a growing number are taking clients on virtual tours of buildings instead of presenting wood-and-plastic models.
Wiechert, who spent three years at an architecture firm before entering graduate school, says that only one of his employers drew plans by hand.) Much like plants have a consciousness enough to unfurl, propogate, and recover from damage; landscapes, observed over time, can reveal the mineralization (in the form of architecture and environment) and energy shifts occurring due to the flux of socio-economic transactions.
I hope to provide a vehicle in which to view historical information not in a linear context, but as tangible tissues and organs in a constant state of flux.
