The Library needs to monitor the quality of the preservation, and be protected against difficulties such as corporate bankruptcy, but the resource commitment is much less than managing a duplicate copy of the material at the Library.
The Library can be expected to develop the librarianship skills to manage born digital materials and to play an international role in spreading the skills to other libraries.
However, the Library is not a research organization and many of the computing methods for collecting and preserving web materials are still in a state of flux.

Library administrators cite an unsustainable pricing model, prohibitive selection options, and the financial impact on the library's ability to purchase other journals as reasons for its decision.
Publishers prohibit libraries from canceling (even duplicate subscriptions) as a prerequisite for remaining in the big deal, and they provide incentives for libraries to contract for the aggregation for three to five years.
Once a library has licensed access to a bundle of journals, it can become even more costly to extricate itself from the agreement, as individual subscription prices increase substantially for the journals it retains after canceling the bundle.

 Cornucopia - Medieval Studies at Cornell
Medieval books and manuscripts were among the Cornell Library's earliest acquisitions, due to the efforts of George Lincoln Burr, a Cornell medievalist and the first librarian of the university.
This site results from an exhibition in the Cornell University Library, which traced the history of the medieval book—its appearance, content, audiences, and forms—from the 9th to the 15th centuries.
Drawn from the holdings of Cornell Library’s Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections, the exhibition presented a rich variety of medieval manuscripts and printed books, from early religious manuscripts and illuminated prayerbooks to the secular works of classical antiquity and the first books printed from metal type.

ITHACA, NY: The Cornell University Library has received a $24,972 grant to continue work documenting the grape growing and winemaking industries in New York State.
Cornell University established the Eastern Wine and Grape Archive in 1998 as a cooperative project between the Cornell University Library's Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections and the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, NY (NYSAES).
The Cornell University Library has used the grant to fund an archivist, and appointed Kari Smith to the project.

 Digitizing the Collection
The Johnson Museum of Art is engaged in a collaborative project with the University Library’s Cornell Institute for Digital Collections to digitize and offer electronic access to its permanent collection of over 30,000 objects.
Every work of art must be digitally photographed to generate high-resolution images that are then integrated with expert curatorial data for searching and viewing by Cornell faculty and students, and the general public and scholars around the world.
A 2006 Institute of Museum and Library Services "Museums for America Grant" award will support the digitization of an additional 1,600 objects, which will be made available online and in a handheld computer tour of our future open storage area.

The authors, researchers at the Rand Corporation and Brown University, use data from the National Longitudinal Surveys of Young Women and Young Men to test their hypothesis that nonfamily living by young adults alters their attitudes, values, plans, and expectations, moving them away from their belief in traditional sex roles.
They find their hypothesis strongly supported in young females, while the effects were fewer in studies of young males.
