  Book on notable Cornellians
It is fitting that the idea for a book titled The 100 Most Notable Cornellians had its genesis in a newsletter posted on the bulletin board of the Ithaca area YMCA.
Confronted with this challenging abundance, the authors canvassed various Cornell departments, scoured encyclopedias, archives and alumni records and engaged in vigorous debates amongst themselves that occasionally had to be settled by majority vote.
What makes The 100 Most Notable Cornellians unusual as a tribute was the authors' choice to focus on men and women who completed an undergraduate degree.

Each Cornellian is profiled in a witty and erudite essay, each accompanied—with one telling exception—by a portrait.
In immortalizing a selection of notable Cornellians from a bit more than the first hundred years of the university, the authors arrive at a portrait of Cornell itself, "a world-class institution with an egalitarian soul" where undergraduates are guided to exceed their own goals and change the world, too.
Glenn C. Altschuler is the Thomas and Dorothy Litwin Professor of American Studies, and the Dean of the School of Continuing Education and Summer Sessions at Cornell University.

cidoc: corporate identity related news - Cornell University
The development process, which has lasted almost five months and involved input from a wide range of Cornellians, has culminated in a graphic identifier that has received praise from all corners of the campus.
The emblem had deep resonance for many Cornellians, Bruce found, as an academic symbol of the university and its history.
And while the colorful university emblem remains a viable symbol that will continue in use in some university contexts — such as on the Cornell flag — it is difficult to reproduce accurately and effectively in the real world of fax copies, photocopies and one-color reproduction.

Cornellians push for pro-higher-ed tax bill
The Senate measure includes a $1,500 tax credit to help families pay for tuition, a tax deduction for interest paid on student loans and a tax exemption on tuition payments made for workers by their employers.
Johnson noted that Cornellians come from various congressional districts, and by contacting their congressmen, they are helping to extend the reach of the university's efforts into the very heart of the House-Senate Conference Committee now seeking agreement on the bill.
Cornellians are reaching out, and my staff and I are coordinating that effort, as well as continuing the individual, one-on-one outreach that's so important and so effective in such times.

To have discographers hint that an individual might not exist, other than as a pseudonym for someone else's recording enterprise, seems to be like standing on the threshold of total obscurity.
There are recordings by Bob Causer and His Cornellians on the Banner label, for example, often a clue that some guess-who is due.
His main group associations are Bob Causer and His Cornellians, which recorded prolifically in the '30s, and somewhat earlier activity involving a group known as Bob Causer`s Big Four, or sometimes just the Big Four.

And those lucky and wise Cornellians who will follow on my heels to Pembroke are just getting their last breath Ithaca for over a year.
To the newbie, “Oxford” might evoke a lot of images: the “dreaming spires” over the skyline, students in robes riding around on bikes, boring and studious students, fantastically elegant balls, tense town-and-gown relations, grotesque gargoyle statues, and traditions born of punishments made in perpetuity that seem farsical now.
Well my Cornellians, I don't mean to dispel any myths before you set foot in England, but if you go out on the Cherwell, I hope your date is an experienced puntateer.

Editor's Note: Every year Cornellians vote for 2 fellow alumni to sit on the university's Board of Trustees.
Don Lifton '67 was elected to the Board in 1990 for a four year term, not by the usual nomination from the Board's screening committee, but independently with a fistful of petition signatures in hand.
Anyway, Don ran on a progressive platform and won by a landslide - a testament to the intelligence of Cornellians, who doubtless grow tired of the endless "Go Big Red" platitudes of other trustee candidates.
