The Cornish Nationalist Party (CNP), or Party Kenethlegek Kernow, was a political party led by Dr Whetter campaigning for self-government for Cornwall that split from Mebyon Kernow on May 28, 1975.
The CNP essentially represented the party's right wing, who were not willing to accept that economic arguments were more likely to win votes than cultural.
While the CNP were not a racist organisation there was a perceived image problem relating to the similarly-styled BNP.

In the 20th century the Labour Party was established, leading to the demise of the Whigs as the liberal force in British Politics.
After performing poorly in the elections of 1922, 1923 and 1924, the Liberal Party was superseded by the Labour Party as the party of the left, and inheritor of the spirit of the Whig movement.
The Labour Party elected staunch left-winger Michael Foot as their leader after their 1979 election defeat, and he responded to Margaret Thatcher's government by moving the party further to the left, a move which split the party and was widely believed to have made Labour unelectable for a decade.

The defining of a Cornishness as respect for life and culture is similar to the defining by multiculturalists of Englishness as being a spirit of tolerance and understanding.
It is obviously not a genetic thing, that is that the Cornish are the descendants of ancient Britons whilst the English are the descendants of Anglo Saxons, because genes and race do not affect personality or culture.

I left because i felt that the CNP had come to a halt and didn't seem to be going anywhere politcal wise and the Chairman, Dr. James Whetter more or less agreed with me admitting that the CNP had taken on the role of a pressure group.
The problem is that CNP sounds a little like the BNP and the CNP are not are racist group wheras the BNP run a fine line in home county UKIP coffee mornings.
I was once close to joining the CNP when its leader broke away from MK, but deep down I knew that it was MK with its strong roots in Cornwall that was the best machine for enabling control of Cornwall to be given back to its citizens.

Labour were badly defeated by the Conservatives in the general election of 1983 and Michael Foot was replaced by the more moderate Neil Kinnock as leader of the Labour party, who expelled the far left-wing Militant group, and moderated many of the party's policies.

As for "traitors", it is equally relevant that you have not retracted your comments in regard to the CSP, many of which have been equally blunt and offensive to those concerned.
On your own admission, you are not a nationalist and it is difficult, therefore, to see why this observation (which wasn't made by myself), in regard to a Cornish nationalist political party, seems to have stuck in your throat.
As far as your concerns in regard to "means rather than ends", I would be most interested to know your reasons for making this assertion when, on your own admission, you are not a nationalist and neither do you support the Cornish Stannary Parliament.

Daphne du Maurier, the well known novelist, was at one point a member of Mebyon Kernow, as was Andrew George, the Liberal Democrat MP; he still remains sympathetic to many Cornish issues, but is no longer a member since they became a political party.
