Coronene - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Coronene is produced in the petroleum refining process of hydrocracking, where it can domerize to a twenty-five ring PAH.
In the latter case the most stable structure for coronene has only the three isolated outer sextets as fully aromatic although superaromaticity would still be possible when these sextets are able to migrate into the next ring.
In this geometry the stacks of coronene disks are aligned with the length of the tube.

Print Page - Confusion over coronene
Coronene is a hydrocarbon that is made of six benzene rings fused together in a shape similar to a snowflake.
Judging from this, coronene should be either anti-aromatic or non-aromatic.
By definition, coronene shouldn't be aromatic, but every source I can find says it is. Weird.

 KSEF
This research examines coronene and similar plate-like, fused ring molecules for their potential to reinforce polymer matrices with unprecedented effectiveness.
In proposing to use coronene and similar molecules as reinforcements for polymers, we are entering the smallest end of the nanoscale regime.
The dimension of these molecules is on the order of a nanometer, one to three orders of magnitude less than those of the montmorillonite clays and carbon nanotubes currently being vigorously explored as nanoreinforcements for polymer matrices.

Method for removing coronene from heat exchangers - Patent 4203825
Coronene deposits are removed from a heat exchange zone of a reforming process by operating the reforming zone at conditions such that at least a portion of the reformer effluent condenses in the heat exchange zone where the coronene deposit occurs.
Because of its high melting point, when coronene is present in relatively high concentrations, coronene readily deposits as a solid upstream of the effluent dew point in the heat exchanger used to cool the effluent.
When the content of coronene in the reformer effluent is relatively high, that is, at least 0.5 wppm, coronene may precipitate out from the effluent to the surface of the heat exchanger.

Therefore, it was conceivable that fullerene, coronene and calixarene activators may preferentially accumulate at the interfacial region and, therefore, mediate interface-directed translocation of polyarginine carriers.
The dotted line indicates the phase transition of DPPC at 41.4 °C, data points were taken at 25, 35, 45, 50 and 60 °C. The efficiency sequences in sol-phase DPPC, in gel-phase DPPC and in sol-phase EYPC were not the same (Table 3).
High activities of coronenes and pyrenes in DPPC vesicles might relate to the preference of polyaromatic hydrocarbons to partition into liquid ordered phase rather than liquid disordered phase of a bilayer.

 Jahrbuch-CD der MPG 2003 - Electron-intramolecular-phonon
Electron-intramolecular-phonon coupling and its role in the occurrence of possible superconductivity in the monoanions of coronene (C24H12) and corannulene (C20H10) are studied.
The C-C stretching E-2g mode of 1668 cm(-1) plays an essential role in the electron-intramolecular-phonon coupling in the monoanion of coronene while the low frequency E-2 modes, which have a radial character, and the C-C stretching mode of 1669 cm(-1), which has a tangential character, afford large electron-intramolecular-phonon coupling constants in the monoanion of corannulene.
The intermediate characteristics between sigma and pi orbital interaction properties owing to the bowl- shaped structure of corannulene make orbital interactions between two neighboring carbon atoms strong, and thus electron- intramolecular-phonon coupling is stronger in the monoanion of corannulene than that in the monoanion of coronene.
