Corpus Christi College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
The important Spanish humanist Juan Luis Vives taught at Corpus while tutor to Mary Tudor, later Queen Mary I. The humanistic ideas of the founder are still important to the college today, with a continued emphasis on the teaching of Latin, Ancient Greek, and ancient history.
Corpus Christi has around 350 students (of which roughly 220 are undergraduates), which makes it one of the smallest colleges in Oxford.

In 1813, on the resignation of Dr. Kidd, he was appointed reader in mineralogy in Oxford; and the interest excited by his lectures was so great that in 1819 a readership in geology was founded and especially endowed by the treasury, Buckland being the first holder of the new appointment.
In 1825 he was presented by his college to the living of Stoke Charity, near Whitchurch, Hants, and in the same year he was appointed by Lord Liverpool to a canonry of the cathedral of Christ Church, Oxford, when the degree of D.D. was conferred upon him.

Corpus manuscript 144 is unusual (though not unique) in containing leaves from a 14th-century music book that were scraped, refinished and re-used for writing another text in the 15th century (the Libermetricus de nova poetria of Geoffrey of Vinsauf).
The images show a much reduced version of a digital image that was captured at high resolution using conventional daylight balanced lighting: the first image shows how the page looks to the naked eye without the aid of ultra-violet light.
In this case a similar process was applied to the Corpus fragment, though here there was negligible overwriting to exclude.

When he summarized his life, at a party in 2002 given to mark his retirement in the garden of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, it was of his academic and working life he spoke, and the apparent chance of the post of Assistant Keeper of Antiquities which led him into his lifetime's work.
Within Oxford he gave the same service, accepted many responsibilities of administration, including acting as Secretary of the Griffith Institute from 1983 until his retirement.
His scholarship was legendary, and his knowledge encyclopaedic, but they were accompanied both by humanity and a luminous common sense which made him the most accessible of scholars and the most capable of administrators.
